PPC Releases Sustainability and Forestry Webinar Series

Press release from the issuing company

SPRINGFIELD, MA - With increasing demand for paperboard packaging derived from certified forest products, to help converters explain chain of custody as well as SFI/FSC forest management certification schemes, the Paperboard Packaging Council (PPC) recently released a series of webinars on sustainable forestry.

In the webinar titled “Forest Certification,” Esther Piñon of International Paper explains the benefits of becoming certified in a recognized forestry management program and offers a brief overview of SFI, FSC, and PEFC.

“The Benefits of Forest Management for Paperboard Packaging” by Chris Davidson, Director of Sustainable Forestry at MeadWestvaco, describes in another webinar the healthy partnership that exists between paperboard packaging and the forest products industry. The webinar also addresses how fiber travels from the forest to the consumer and why forests are important to our economic health.

Finally, Gary Boyd of Greener Options Inc., explains how wood products originate from sustainably managed forests in the webinar “Chain of Custody Certification,” as well as describes the importance of becoming CoC certified.

“Being able to relay the specifics about chain of custody to customers is crucial,” said Ben Markens, PPC President. “This bank of critical information will allow PPC members to not only feel more confident in their customer interactions but also take a proactive stance in promoting the sustainability of their packaging.”
