EFI Emphasizes Open Architectures and Education at Graphic Communications Day

Press release from the issuing company

FOSTER CITY, Calif. - November 6, 2003 - Electronics For Imaging is participating in the 3rd Annual Graphic Communications Day in New York today. EFI is showcasing its latest integrated workflow solutions, sponsoring the student design competition, and taking part in two industry panel discussions. GCD is the premiere event for anyone creating, producing, buying, selling or studying print media in the New York-New Jersey metropolitan region. It is being held at Madison Square Garden in New York City. "As technologies and approaches to commercial printing and graphic communications continue to grow and evolve, EFI is proud to participate in Graphic Communications Day to give aspiring students the opportunity to interact with leading digital imaging and print management tools," said Frank Mallozzi, VP of Worldwide Sales, EFI. "This event promotes career awareness and plays an important role in shaping the next generation of printing professionals and we are proud to join other industry leaders to promote the importance of education and teamwork in graphic arts design and production." EFI will demonstrate how local commercial printers can increase productivity, reduce costs and improve business processes by implementing an integrated, end-to-end workflow system that leverages EFI's Fiery technology, Velocity workflow software, Best proofing solutions and Printcafe print management software. "Print providers need to use workflows that are open, flexible and based on industry standards," said Mallozzi. "Open architecture systems enable shops to take advantage of third party applications and benefit from a complete, customized and automated workflow for greater efficiency and productivity. It is these open solutions that will help fuel the future growth of the printing industry." EFI product demonstrations can be seen in the Design Island, a special section of the show reserved for companies sponsoring the first annual Design Competition. The Design Competition features teams of New York City high school students tasked with designing a promotional campaign for the Literacy Partners, a not-for-profit organization. The winning project will be published in Newsweek magazine and posted inside New York City buses. Mallozzi will serve as a judge in the Design Competition, as well as discuss industry trends in the opening executive panel hosted by industry pundit Frank Romano of the Rochester Institute of Technology. In addition, Chuck Gehman, Director of Product Marketing and author of the recently published book Print Production Workflow: A Practical Guide, will host a seminar entitled "Demystifying Workflows." Mr. Gehman will explain how to optimize print production workflow for greater speed, efficiency and cost-savings.
