Minneapolis-Based Bindery Now Offers Customers Greater Versatility and Fast Turnaround Times for PUR Layflat Adhesive Binding Projects
Minneapolis, MN - Muscle Bound Bindery, a full-service provider of hardcover and softcover book binding solutions, announces that it has installed a new Nordson EP48 PUR gluing system. The new Nordson system - the second one installed at Muscle Bound - will be used for PUR Otabind layflat adhesive binding on one of Muscle Bound’s four adhesive binding lines. With the Nordson system installed, Muscle Bound now offers customers greater versatility and fast turnaround times for hardcover and softcover Otabind layflat book projects.
“By adding the second Nordson system, we’ve effectively doubled our PUR production capacity,” said Gary Hansen, president of Muscle Bound Bindery. “Having a dedicated PUR line for Otabind layflat applications, in addition to our existing PUR perfect binding system, gives our customers more choices for books that benefit from PUR binding.”
The Nordson system includes several features designed to help ensure consistently superior production quality and efficiency. The system can be quickly adjusted for various book widths and lengths, minimizing setup time. Process controls are optimized to ensure consistent, efficient adhesive application. Powerful application pressure and clean cutoff features ensure the PUR system operates as fast as the binding line to which it’s attached.
Otabind offers layflat capabilities, making it a highly desirable binding style for a wide range of softcover and hardcover applications. “While Otabind traditionally uses cold-set adhesives, the new Nordson system allows us to use super-strong PUR adhesive for Otabind applications on a second binding line,” said Hansen. “This is a key advantage for clients with tough binding challenges such as heavy ink coverage and cross-grain stocks.
PUR (polyurethane reactive) adhesive is considered the most durable bookbinding adhesive available. PUR's strength, flexibility and durability can help overcome traditionally tough binding challenges, including heavy ink/coating coverage and heavy-use applications.
