MGI Installs Meteor Digital Press in Vatican Print Shop

Press release from the issuing company

Ivry-Sur-Seine, France – MGI Digital Graphic Technology, a leading manufacturer of digital printing and finishing solutions, announced that the Vatican has installed a Meteor DP8700 XL digital press.

Established in 1587 by Pope Sixtus V, the Holy See’s in-plant production house (known as Tipografia Vaticana) is charged with printing everything from magazines to brochures and all of the Vatican’s stationary and envelopes, along with magazines and art publications for the museums and the Vatican Library, just to name a few. They also produce the weekly newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano.

After extensive testing, they chose the MGI Meteor DP8700 XL for the outstanding print quality on a myriad of applications, especially printing open-flap envelopes and extended book covers up to 13x40” in length, as well as the ability to utilize standard offset stocks.

MGI’s Italian distribution partner, Agfa Graphics, recently completed the sale and installation of the Vatican’s newest press, which joins an assortment of offset presses (sheetfed and web) and other finishing equipment.

This is MGI’s first installation in the Vatican and other MGI digital solutions are currently under evaluation.
