Rochester Printer Expands Premedia Storage Capabilities With Exastore System

Press release from the issuing company

Norwalk, Connecticut, USA — Mercury Print Productions, Inc., a leading full-service printing and premedia company, has installed its first ExaStore automated scalable storage cluster system specifically adapted for pre-media applications. Kodak Polychrome Graphics (KPG) is the worldwide distributor of the ExaStore system. Installed at Mercury Print’s production facility in Rochester, New York, the ExaStore system provides easy access to all files at all times to enhance the sharing of digital media applications across all of the company's storage at the site. This powerful storage solution was integrated with Mercury Print’s newly installed Prinergy workflow from Creo Inc. Mercury Print’s ExaStore system is currently running production work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with no planned or unplanned downtime. "We spent a considerable amount of time researching the various storage solutions currently available," said Todd C. Knipe, Mercury Print’s Information Systems Manager. "We wanted to install a complete storage solution than could become an integral part of our critical Prinergy workflow architecture and one that could easily be expanded. "In the past few years, our digital storage needs have grown exponentially. ExaStore’s unique scalability enables us to add additional storage as our storage needs expand and provides us with a storage solution for today as well as for tomorrow. ExaStore gives us one pool of data to immediately simplify our workflow processes and significantly enhance our throughput and productivity. The ExaStore system is an important advance in digital content management for the graphic arts industry." Installed on industry-standard, off-the-shelf servers and RAIDs, ExaStore software integrates the capabilities of different storage pools into a complete, low-cost system providing reliable, high-performance, dynamic, load-balanced access to all media files. The ExaStore system seamlessly scales to any storage capacity, performance or bandwidth level and its "No Single Point Of Failure" architecture insures automatic fail-over of any component to support highly demanding, tight production schedules and deadlines imposed by the publishing industry. "As one of the industry's well recognized printing and premedia companies, Mercury Print is a leader in adopting new digital media technologies," said William DeMarco, Director of Worldwide Business Development, KPG. "With the flexibility and scalability of the ExaStore systems installed at its high-volume operation, Mercury Print assures itself easy, efficient access to its total digital storage capacity with low-cost, dynamic application-tuned performance. ExaStore enables unparalleled storage integration and control of the digital media being processed, providing Mercury Print with an important advantage in serving their clients in a high-pressure, time-critical production environment."
