Press release from the issuing company

NEW YORK, NY, February 26, 2004—New York City is the place to be if you want to see award-winning entries of the finest graphic art, design and production created within the NY/NJ metro area during 2003. The Association of Graphic Communications (AGC) will hold its 62nd Annual Graphic Arts Awards Exhibition on April 21st and 22nd at the Xerox Knowledge Sharing Centre, 245 Park Avenue at 47th Street, New York City. The popular Exhibition is open to the public on April 21st (Technical Excellence Day), from 10:30 a.m.-5:45 p.m. and on April 22nd (Designers’ Day), from 10:30 a.m.-4:45 p.m. Xerox Corporation is serving as facility hosts for the third successive year. Entries on public display will be segmented within 24 graphic arts categories and include annual reports, ads, campaign advertising, book covers, brochures, packaging, point-of- purchase, web sites and digital print-on-demand pieces, among others. Over a three-day period in mid-February, more than 600 entries were reviewed by a prestigious panel of 14 judges at Cosmos Communications in Long Island City. These ballots and those from an additional seven judges from the Digital On Demand Print and Website Design Categories will be tabulated and notification to award winners is scheduled for mid-March. “The continued interest in submitting entries for judging and the possibility of being widely recognized for award-winning work, together with a strong commitment from sponsors and our industry to continue this proud tradition, has been inspiring,” said Awards Exhibition Co-Chairman Alan Bergman (Hudson Printing, Inc., Long Island City). “Our Association is also extremely grateful to Cosmos Communications for providing us for the third year in a row with the critical space needed to process, judge and pre-mount Showcase winners for the Exhibition.” Co-Chairman, Rob Sternau (Toppan Printing Company America, Inc.) noted, “In addition to the customary AGC Achievement and Showcase Awards, the AGC Technical Excellence Awards will become more dynamic this year with the top three being named as Leo Award recipients, in honor of the late Leo H. Joachim, founder, editor, and publisher of Printing News. Also new is the Spotlight Award, which will highlight trends within the Annual Report category with a “best in category” Award winner selected. Moreover, the second annual Paper Recognition Awards will be presented by NPTA Alliance in conjunction with the Designers’ Day at the Exhibition.” “AGC Technical Excellence Award winning pieces will be displayed along with over 150 AGC Showcase Award winning samples,” Sternau continued. “As an Awards Sponsor, Pantone, Inc. will then present its 11th Annual Excellence in Color Awards in conjunction with the AGC Annual Exhibition. The Pantone Color Excellence Awards always create excitement.” This year’s panel of judges included: Co-Chairman Roy Zucca (Consult.ROY.com); Ken Fox (Robert Webster, Inc.); John Barban (Consultants In Design); Rachael Casaclang-Szell (TIAA-CREF); Bill DeMilt (AT&T); Tom Franken (Design.Matters ); Bill Freeland (LaGuardia Community College and City University of New York); Bill Frohlich (NPTA Alliance); Robert Gardella (Hoffmann-LaRoche, Inc.); David Lindsay (Printing News); Ilana Greenberg (Graphic Design: usa); Matthew Johnson (Goldman, Sachs & Co.); Michael Mimeles (Pay By Touch); Jack Powers (IN3.org); Melody Reed, (Consultant), Lynn Rico (Citibank), Vincent Ruta (Citibank); Carol Smith (Creative Source); and Stephen Szymanski (Marsh, USA, Inc.).
