NAPL will remember late volunteer leader during ceremonies at its annual Soderstrom Society event in Chicago on Oct. 6.
The National Association for Printing Leadership (NAPL) will honor the late Dean E. Hanisko during ceremonies at its annual Soderstrom Society Awards program at Chicago's MidAmerica Club on Saturday, Oct. 6. Hanisko, who had served as a member of NAPL's Board of Directors since 2004, passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 2.
Presentation of the 52nd annual Walter E. Soderstrom Award to John Saxton, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Sheridan Group, and the induction of 12 new members into the Soderstrom industry honor society will take place during the Oct. 6 event.
"Dean's loss is deeply felt by the entire staff and volunteer leadership of NAPL and we wanted to honor him in a special way," says NAPL President and Chief Executive Officer Joseph P. Truncale, Ph.D. "We've asked his family to join us at our Soderstrom Society dinner meeting so that we can express our gratitude for all that he did for the association and our industry, and share some personal memories of this very special man."
Hanisko, who served as Senior Vice President, Corporate Business Development, Great Lakes Integrated, Cleveland, Ohio, was a member of the NAPL Board's Strategic Planning Committee and an invaluable contributor to NAPL's Management Plus and Soderstrom Society programs, volunteering to create audiovisual tributes every year to honor the Soderstrom Society Award winner and new Society inductees, and doing the same at each NAPL Top Management Conference to highlight the Management Plus awards.
"It is hard to remember a time when we had a Management Plus program that wasn't the beneficiary of Dean's unique talents and generous spirit," notes Truncale. "He cheerfully volunteered to coordinate the presentations, photos, music scripting, everything needed to ensure a flawless program.
"He did the same for the annual Soderstrom Awards ceremony. That's why it is especially meaningful and fitting that we conduct this special presentation during this year's program as we acknowledge, honor, and remember Dean," he continues. "I know that his many industry friends will want to join us that evening to take part in the remembrance."
Hanisko was a frequent speaker across the nation on topics relating to technology and its various applications in the Graphic Communications industry. In addition to his work with NAPL, he was active with a number of industry organizations, including the Graphic Arts Council of Cleveland, PIANKO (Printing Industries of Ohio • Northern Kentucky), and the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation.
