Standard to Launch Several Solutions at Graph Expo

Press release from the issuing company

Standard Finishing Systems will showcase 5,000 square-feet of post press, paper handling, inserting, and inspection solutions under the theme "Performance Built" in booth 1244 at Graph Expo in Chicago, including several North American premiers.

All of the live demonstrations and solutions will be geared to deliver finishing performance and value through intelligent automation, speed, versatility, quality, document integrity, and production efficiency.  The Standard feeding and finishing portfolio continues to expand with new products and accessories surrounding the professional production and distribution of digitally and offset printed documents.  A diverse set of Standard Hunkeler and Standard Horizon paper handling and finishing solutions will also be shown in partnership with industry-leading digital print manufacturers.

Several Premieres at Graph Expo
Standard will introduce several new products to North America in their booth at Graph Expo. The Standard Horizon HT-1000V Variable Three-knife Trimmer is capable of one-to-one variable trimming, in-line with a perfect binder or off-line.  Setup and variable trimming is achieved by reading a barcode printed on the book cover, and up to 1,000 variable-thickness and variable-format size books can be trimmed per hour.  The HT-1000V will accept a wide range of input sizes and deliver trimmed books from 5.7" x 4.05" up to 13.38" x 11.69".

The HOF-400 is the latest in Horizon's line of versatile high-speed sheet feeders. The HOF-400 can be connected to the SPF-200 Series Bookletmaker and the StitchLiner 5500 for saddlestitching of digitally printed output at speeds up to 45,000 sheets per hour.  The modular system can be configured to fit various customer requirements.  Variable page count production is possible with the standard mark reader, which the operator can quickly change between top and bottom reading for different applications.  The HOF-400 can accommodate a maximum sheet size of 14" x 24 " to produce landscape format booklets or calendars in-line with the new SPF-200L Landscape Bookletmaker, yet another solution that will debut at Graph Expo.

The new Standard Horizon CRF-362 Creaser/Folder has been designed to handle the unique requirements of creasing and folding of digital color output across a wide range of light and heavy weight stocks, coated or uncoated.  The impact scoring eliminates or minimizes cracking of the stock and printed image. The CRF-362 comes configured with seven selectable fold patterns and six selectable cover creasing patterns for perfect binding. Jobs can be saved to job memory, and up to 10 creases can be placed on each sheet. Paper weights up to 400 gsm can be creased without folding (350 gsm with folding), and it can handle sheets up to 14.33" x 34".

The new Horizon SmartStacker will premiere as a technology demonstration, converting a B2-size / 20" x 29" sheet into as many as 28 individual cut sheets, with intelligent accumulation and stacking, and end-to-end JDF control. The sheets can also be conveyed for in-line finishing such as saddlestitching, folding, or perfect binding.  The system edge trims and gutter cuts for up to 7 sheets in one direction and four in the other for full bleed trimming.  The new SmartStacker streamlines production by minimizing material handling with fewer touchpoints for lower labor costs. JDF control eliminates costly set-up errors, and finished documents are turned around faster with improved integrity.  Most important, it lets you produce more jobs per shift with greater efficiency, changing the equation from cost/printed page to cost/finished document.  Designed to run in-line with the HP Indigo 10000 B2 Digital Press, the system can also be operated off-line.

The new Standard Hunkeler WI6 Web Inspection System will be shown as part of a roll-to-fold solution that features the Hunkeler DP6 Dynamic Perforator, CS6-II Cutter with chip-out, and the Horizon AF-566F Folder.  Individually driven hydraulic cylinders make the DP6 capable of producing unique and dynamic file hole punching and perforating patterns that can vary from sheet to sheet.  The WI6 will be capturing high resolution images of the full web width for in-line verification, quality inspection and integrity analysis of the printed roll for mass mailing, print on demand, financial and other variable data applications. Print quality and integrity problems are immediately detected so incorrect documents can be automatically diverted or flagged in the database, and instantly reprinted to guarantee error-free output, minimal waste, and reduced downtime. The system can perform a variety of quality checks, including detecting ink spills, jet-outs or print voids, verification of barcodes or postal codes, and image quality inspection. Information from several print lines utilizing the WI6 can be communicated to the printer's ADF system to monitor production and prevent duplications.

Saddlestitching Flexibility: Solutions for Digital Roll, Cut-sheet, and Offset
The Standard Horizon StitchLiner 6000 Digital saddlestitcher will be shown producing variable sheet-count booklets from a digitally pre-printed roll on the Standard booth.  Standard Hunkeler unwinding and rotary cutting technology has been tightly integrated with the Horizon saddlestitching platform, and an optional high-speed sheet feeder can be added so customers have the flexibility to run from a roll or cut-sheets.  The StitchLiner 6000 Digital can also be placed in-line with a roll-fed printer, so you can go from white paper to full-color, variable booklets that are ready-to-ship in one continuous process with no manual touchpoints.

"The combination of legendary Horizon and Hunkeler engineering, from one trusted supplier, brings new levels of integration and performance to every high-speed continuous-feed production print platform" said David Reny, Executive Vice President, Standard Finishing Systems.  "Customers are looking for highly-reliable in-line feeding and finishing solutions to help improve efficiencies and value, and the StitchLiner 6000 Digital is designed to meet those goals."

The Standard Horizon StitchLiner 5500 will be producing high-quality saddlestitched documents up to 200 pages. The system eliminates signature folding by combining flat sheet gathering, scoring, folding, stitching, and three-knife trimming in one integrated line. The StitchLiner -- well established as the market leader in four-page signature saddlestitching -- will also be configured with a HOF high-speed sheet feeder for digitally pre-collated output, so the same system can pull double-duty serving both offset and digital production workflows.

Vision Based Inspection Systems
The "VIVA" suite of vision-based inspection systems – custom-designed for document integrity, quality control and verification in production environments – will be shown on several systems at Graph Expo.    VIVA cameras for sheet-level and set-level integrity checking will be mounted on a Standard Horizon StitchLiner 6000 Digital in-line saddlestitching system, a Standard Horizon HOF-30 high-speed sheet feeder paired with the StitchLiner 5500 Saddlestitcher, and the Standard KAS 465HS Mail Inserter. The VIVA line can be deployed across a broad range of Standard solutions to ensure quality control, integrity, tracking and reporting of personalized documents.

Digital Print Partnerships Take Center Stage
Standard will also show a diverse range of feeding and finishing solutions with their digital print partners throughout the halls at Graph Expo.  The InfoPrint 5000 Production Printer will be equipped with a Standard Hunkeler unwind, rotary cut and stack line in the Ricoh booth.  Canon will show Hunkeler pre and post paper handling on the Océ Colorstream 3700 full-color inkjet printer with the in-line Horizon StitchLiner 6000 Digital bookletmaker.  Xerox will show the Standard Horizon ColorWorks Pro Plus bookletmaker on the Color Press 1000 Digital Color Press.  Also, Delphax will show the Horizon SF-100 Sheet Feeder in-line with the compact, multi-functional Standard Horizon ColorWorks 8000NL finisher.  Various Hunkeler modules will also be shown on other stands, and leading digital print partners will demonstrate a wide range of pre-printed roll and cut-sheet applications live on the Standard booth.

Graph Expo attendees are invited to arrange a private equipment demonstration tailored to their application requirements by pre-registering for the Standard Graph Expo-VIP Program at www.sdmc.com/graphexpo.
