Duplo USA Launches the DBMi Saddle System

Press release from the issuing company

Duplo USA has released the DBMi Saddle System, Duplo’s heaviest-duty collating and saddle stitching system, and it is now available in the United States, Canada and Latin America. First introduced in the U.S. at Graph Expo 2011, the DBMi Saddle System is the first in its class to produce letter landscape booklets with its ability to process 24” length sheets. Designed to handle both traditional offset work as well as shorter-run digital jobs with equal ease and efficiency, the DBMi combines PC-based programming and intelligent feeding with superior scoring and folding to producer thicker, flatter books up to 4,500 booklets per hour. What’s more, its modular design enables users to add three-knife trimming capabilities with the optional DKT-200 Two-Knife Trimmer, which can also process 2-up applications, boosting its production up to 9,000 booklets an hour.

The DBMi incorporates the new DSC-10/60i Suction Feed Collators, which feature Duplo’s patented dual fan technology and an Air Management System (AMS) for consistent and reliable feeding. Using the Intelligent Multi-Bin Feeding (IMBF) feature, operators can feed multiple sheets from a single bin and merge offset with digital output. The DBMi is programmed entirely from a PC via the PC Controller, making it simple for users to set up jobs and manage the settings of both the collators and saddle stitcher. Customers can also operate the system remotely on their tablets or smartphones using remote desktop applications.

“The DBMi is not just an ordinary saddle stitching system. It is the future of bookletmaking,” says Anthony Gandara, product manager at Duplo USA.  “With its ability to collate and perform intelligent multi-bin feeding, the DBMi gives customers the flexibility to effectively perform a wider range of saddle stitched bookletmaking applications quicker and easier.”

Additionally, the DBMi can be configured with the new DSF-2200 Digital Sheet Feeder with or without the collators, making it possible to feed pre-collated digital jobs and add 1D or 2D barcode reader kits for complete set integrity.
