DALIM SOFTWARE Announces an Easy Way to Share at drupa

Press release from the issuing company

DALIM SOFTWARE, makers of highly efficient, scalable software solutions for the creation, production and management of cross-media content, announces that at drupa Hall 7a, Stand D07 it will showcase new, significant ES and VIRTUAL LIBRARY features that assist file sharing and viewing. This complements previous announcements introducing the latest release of its popular customer-facing online production management, ES 3, (Enterprise Solution), at drupa 2012, along with enhancements to TWIST and DIALOGUE engine.

ES: Willing to share
A new ‘Share’ feature has been added to ES. While most of the time users would like to keep all project related files and information on a centralized server, accessible through a standard web browser, certain documents need to be shared with one or many people — who are not necessarily part of the usual supply chain. The operator simply clicks the ‘Share via Email’ button, and ES generates a URL as well as an email message allowing the file to be sent to whomever the person selects. The recipients simply download the file through that link, even though they might not be registered users of the ES system.

Also, the share invitation can be time constrained. For example, an operator could make a file available only throughout drupa. Afterwards, the share expires.

VIRTUAL LIBRARY: Browser-based option
The VIRTUAL LIBRARY (DVL) is not only a page-turning application but, connected directly to the production server, provides real-time access to job progress for soft proofing and approval. Thus, it offers a realistic ‘look and feel’ of a publication — even simulating different paper grades and characteristics. It works within ES as an RSS stream to the DVL application (Mac OS X and Windows versions available) to provide partners in the print supply chain a chance to review and approve a dynamic and realistic version before it is printed.

The new version of DVL now offers a browser-based edition, eliminating the need to deploy a local client application. Also, to eliminate any issues with browsers or platforms, it is based on HTML5, ensuring that browser based ‘flip books’ will operate on mobile devices as well as desktop systems — without the need for any plug-ins.

Because the DVL can be displayed in a browser, it opens the door for additional benefits. For example, in tandem with the ES ‘Share’ feature, DVL files can be shared with others. Not only can partners email them for download, but also they can easily publish HTML code to embed the DVL on any website, just as is done with YouTube videos, for example.

“Over the past few months, many of our customers had mentioned the ‘Share feature, particularly as it relates to DVL, on their wish lists,” notes Bertin Sorgenfrey, DALIM SOFTWARE head of international marketing. “In fact, I spoke with a customer — a prepress house — that produces various printed catalogs. The retailer would like to display a digital version online as well, even before printing. Combine this with our enriching technology in ES, and you have a very exciting, powerful tool in your hand to produce interactive online catalogs or magazines within minutes. While some prepress houses are already providing this service, they are either Flash based, with its known compatibility issues, or the programming is very time consuming and costly.”

Video presentations available on regular basis
Video presentations will be available to visitors on a regular basis on the DALIM SOFTWARE stand. Topics, among others, include:

  • Enriching otherwise static print-ready PDF with hyperlinks, videos and slide shows to PDF files to create dynamic flip books and iPad Apps in matter of a few minutes.
  • Packaging approval workflows, combining the technical steps completed by production systems along with pulling job data directly from the ES business process. Topics will also include automated step & repeat, impositioning of packaging files, and plate optimization — the ability to automatically populate plates with different quantities of labels or packaging artwork to efficiently print different run lengths on press.

“At drupa, DALIM SOFTWARE has focused on two important graphic production elements,” offers Dr. Carol Werlé, DALIM SOFTWARE CEO. “Many production tools are already quite sophisticated, so we have introduced of business processes to complement the technical production process. Approval, reviews, partner collaboration, and other relationships can help automatically drive production. It’s a real business process. Also, we are offering easy ways to complement print expertise with web-based communication tools, like DVL. Along with making operations more efficient, more importantly we hope to help evolve our customers’ businesses.”
