CCN installs a Muller Martini A68 variable size web press

Press release from the issuing company

Irwindale, California — One of the largest, most technologically advanced printing, inserting and distribution facilities in the country has installed a Muller Martini A68 variable size web press from Muller Martini. California Community News (CCN), a wholly owned subsidiary of Tribune Company, has added the eight-unit machine to its 325,000-square-foot production center here, which opened in 2002. The new A68 will make its public premiere at a March 16 open house event that will be co-sponsored by Muller Martini and GMA, the Muller Martini subsidiary that developed and supplied many of the print finishing and insertion systems CCN operates. CCN’s Muller Martini A68 has a roll to sheet configuration complete with a splicer, in-line finishing and full press automation. It is designed for high quality multicolor printing and can produce at the rate of up to 1,200 feet per minute. Its variable sized cylinders make it well suited to the variety of products CCN produces. California Community News inserts preprint ads produced on their new A68 press into the daily and Sunday editions of The Los Angeles Times, also a Tribune subsidiary. CCN also produces more than 3.5 million copies of The Times' direct mail jacket every week. In addition, CCN prints multiple real estate and auto sections as well as the seven newspapers published by Times Community Newspapers, a division of The Times.
