CLEMSON Hosts In-Line Carton printing and Converting Seminar

The "SONOCO Packaging Institute" in Clemson, SC .onNov 4th. 2011successfully concluded an IN LINE CARTON PRINTING AND CONVERTING SEMINAR, organized by OMET SRL  The seminar was organized by a Team of Printing and Converting Industry partners, including OMET Italy and its US Branch, OMET Americas, in cooperation with the Printing Technology Team of Clemson University.

This educational Seminar was intended to provide information on available technologies, for a viable and cost effective production of cartons and other items, using  fully integrated In Line solutions.

During the sessions, comprehensive information on available technology and materials was  provided to the audience, regarding an alternative solution to traditional sheet fed offset and off-line die-cutting and stripping.

After Mr. Tonkin's (Director at Sonoco Institute, hosting the seminar) introduction speech, the seminar was started with technical presentations  provided to explain all the elements involved, including pre-press.

While Shawk! gave an interesting introduction on prepress and color management, topics related to printing plates choice (All Printing Resources) rotary dies systems (Rotometrics), anilox recommendation and selection (Harper) were discussed. , while Environmental Inks provided guidelines on ink formulation choices for final applications, for both UV or Water Base.

Final session was dedicated to OMET's printing, finishing and converting solutions provided by their Varyflex Platform.

After the technical session, a printing demonstration in Clemson's pressroom was provided to the attendants. Varyflex 21" press ran a variety of carton substrates, including 10 to 26 pt thick stock.
