manroland Receives 2011 Gegenheimer Award

Press release from the issuing company

manroland has been awarded the 2011 Harold W. Gegenheimer Corporate Award for Industry Service from NPES, the Association for Suppliers of Printing, Publishing and Converting Technologies. The award was presented to manroland’s North American CEO Vince Lapinski on Tuesday, October 18, in recognition of manroland’s industry leadership through participation in NPES and industry activities, civic leadership and technical innovation.

manroland, which was selected as the 2011 Corporate Service Award recipient, was cited for being a top developer of computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) for well over a decade.  Recognized for providing leading innovations in printing systems, from commercial through publications to packaging printing, manroland was most recently recognized with an InterTech Award for their Autoprint APL (automatic plate loading system).

Ralph J. Nappi, President of NPES, said, “Despite our industry challenges, manroland still manages impressive technological innovations and leadership in support of our industry.  This was a key reason for manroland receiving the 2011 Harold W. Gegenheimer Award for Industry Service.  NPES is proud of manroland and their leadership in our industry.

Vince Lapinski also commented on the award, “manroland is honored to receive this prestigious award from NPES. Mr. Gegenheimer provided an example to all of us — giving us a vision, not only what print is capable of, but also where we can take print if we can imagine the possibilities. We hope to continue in his footsteps as industry supporters and innovators in print.”

The award is named after the former NPES president and Baldwin Technology Company chairman emeritus, Harold W. Gegenheimer, who invented the convertible offset perfecting press.

Gegenheimer’s many innovations helped offset printing become widespread in the 20th century.
