GMG introduces GMG P3 proofing system at Graph Expo

Press release from the issuing company

Unique "Proof, Prototype and Print"  system produces color-accurate, two-sided, 8-up contract proofs on the actual press substrate

Tuebingen – At Graph Expo 2011, booth 227, GMG Americas, the US office of Germany-based GMG GmbH & Co. KG, leading developer and supplier of high-end color management software solutions, is introducing the GMG P3 System. The solution, a result of the unique collaboration between GMG, Roland DGA and Beyond Manufacturing, offers unattended, sheetfed, contract, double-sided proofing up to 8-up on the actual press substrate. Major components include GMG color management, a Roland UV LEC 330 inkjet printer, and an automatic sheetfeeder developed specifically for the GMG P3 System by Beyond Manufacturing.

The GMG P3 System was created to provide maximum flexibility for customers. In proofing applications it replaces proprietary digital halftone and continuous tone systems, providing faster throughput, better color matching, lower cost and greater flexibility. Depending on monthly volume, the ROI of the GMG P3 System. compared to proprietary systems, can be as little as four months. Variable net operating cost, including depreciation, can be 70% less than proprietary systems.

"Last year -at Graph Expo 2010 - we went to market with a system featuring GMG ColorProof and a Roland digital UV printer that could produce proofs and prototypes on final press substrates," notes Jim Summers, GMG Americas president. "Those using the proofer for packaging prototypes are extremely pleased. Commercial printers were also happy with system for proofing, but many considered the system challenging to work with because sheet stock had to be fed manually. Further, there was a strong desired to have a double-sided proof. Now, with the automatic sheetfeeder, commercial printers get the doubled-sided, contract quality they want, along with unattended, cost-effective operation."

The GMG P3 system offers exceptional color management from an inkjet-based solution with a large gamut for GRACoL-based proofs. Additionally, unlike conventional proprietary systems utilizing donor sheets, there is no manual labor and no lamination or pre-lamination.

The GMG P3 solution prints with CMYK, plus white and/or varnish inks. It is capable of printing both spot and flood varnishes.  As added benefits, the system supports embossing, die cutting, perfing and scoring. The system will also print double-sided (or backing proofs) - 8-up on a 30" wide printer - with exact registration. "Many commercial printers use a proprietary proofing system for color, and use a separate, low quality, two-sided inkjet printer to show content and registration," adds Summers. "Now, they can generate a two-sided color contract proof in registration, unattended, on one device. Further, the same unit can be used for package prototyping and short production runs on almost any substrate, maximizing flexibility with no additional investment."

The GMG P3 solution is available immediately to customers in the Americas.
