Knowledgeworks Global Limited selects Advent 3B2 software for the production of STM journals

Press release from the issuing company

College Park, MD and Swindon, U.K.; February 3, 2004 - Advent 3B2, Inc. and Advent Publishing Systems today announced that Knowledgeworks Global Limited (KGL) of Mumbai, India will install a 10-seat Advent 3B2 composition and pagination system in its recently established production facility in Chennai, India. KGL is a joint venture owned by Cadmus Communications Corporation, a leading provider of services to STM publishers, and Datamatics Technologies Limited, a leading provider of BPO services in India. The company was set-up in 2003 to provide a full range of content processing, content management, and page production services to STM journal and book publishers around the world. The Advent 3B2 composition and pagination software initially will be used by KGL's trained pool of professionals to handle the page editing, formatting and production requirements of STM journals including manuscripts submitted with either XML or TeX encoding. KGL's Chennai facility provides a full range of highly automated content services for books and periodicals, including copy editing, issue management, composition, SGML/XML processing, and data conversion to customers of Cadmus Communications worldwide. Over time the Advent 3B2 system configuration there is expected to grow to encompass 40-50 seats. According to Sunil Parekh, Vice President and General Manager, KGL chose to install a system based on Advent 3B2 software for several important reasons. First, in conjunction with the Cadmus Professional Communications group, it is undertaking a strong initiative to increase the number of STM publishers it serves in the U.K. and in Europe, where Advent's 3B2 software is a de facto standard for STM journal production. The new Advent 3B2 system at KGL's facility in Chennai will ensure transparent compatibility and interoperability of content prepared there and in other facilities. Another reason for choosing Advent 3B2 software is the product's strength for working with manuscripts prepared using either XML mark-up or TeX, a specialized document formatting language widely used by STM publishers. And lastly, because Advent 3B2 software is so well established in India, KGL can more easily hire experienced 3B2 operators. "Advent 3B2 is the only high end publishing platform you find anywhere in India," comments Parekh. "Our publisher customers are very comfortable knowing their manuscripts are being prepared with Advent 3B2. And the software is so flexible it will ensure we can handle virtually any type of STM manuscript our customers give us."
