InfoPrint Solutions takes home multiple Xplor International Awards

Press release from the issuing company

Boulder, CO - InfoPrint Solutions, a Ricoh company, today announced that it was named the recipient of two Xplor International awards for its contributions to the printing industry. The company is taking home honors in the Technology Innovation of the Year and the Brian Platte Lifetime Achievement Award categories, two of the top honors at this internationally-recognized event. The company was selected due to its development and implementation of market-changing workflow solutions, which have enabled such customer benefits as record, page and piece level management, compliance-driven applications and, perhaps most importantly, cost savings for customers. Xplor International, a worldwide, not-for-profit professional association, recognizes industry innovators with these prestigious Xplor International Awards, which will be presented at the Xplor International Conference & Vendor Forum in Tampa Bay, Florida, April 5-7, 2011.

Technology Innovation of the Year

The Technology Innovation of the Year is awarded each year to an organization to recognize an outstanding achievement in the imaginative application of current technology and unique implementation of existing electronic document systems. This year, InfoPrint Solutions, along with valued customer Merrill Corporation, took home the honors for its implementation of a multi-faceted, end-to-end, hardware agnostic Automated Document Factory (ADF), based on InfoPrint ProcessDirector.

With this offering from InfoPrint Solutions, Merrill, a global provider of technology-enabled marketing and communications solutions across a range of industries including healthcare, financial, real estate, legal and corporate management, was able to:

- deliver 15-40 percent cost savings on one customer's marketing and communications programs via production, fulfillment and distribution improvements

- save another client more than $300,000 on a single mailing

"Aside from being an award winner, this unmatched application enabled us to deliver a highly flexible workflow solution that provides integrity management at the record, page and piece level," said Roy Gross, president of the MCS division at Merrill Corporation. "In fact, in one instance we were able to print nearly three million healthcare welcome kits that consisted of more than 190 potential variations with a defect rate of zero. We haven't heard of any other solution that can deliver this level of integrity on a consistent basis and are proud that we have teamed with InfoPrint Solutions to deploy such a game-changing implementation. It could not be more satisfying to see our work recognized by industry veterans like Xplor -- it is a true honor."

InfoPrint Solutions supplied Merrill with its ADF offering, powered by InfoPrint ProcessDirector, to fulfill their need for an end-to-end, hardware agnostic workflow solution platform that enables document management at record, page and piece levels. In addition to a sophisticated production platform, Merrill must comply with strict requirements in heavily regulated industries, particularly healthcare and financial. High document integrity of complex, compliance-driven communications are crucial, and Merrill has successfully implemented a top-notch, unmatched, proven offering.

"This nomination from InfoPrint Solutions and Merrill stood above the rest due to the impressive tracking, accuracy and automation from design to delivery. Though many talk about it, few truly demonstrate the ability to connect, automate and report on this process in an integrated fashion. In fact, this is one of the only integrated, end-to-end workflow implementations of this scale I've seen," said Skip Henk, President and CEO of Xplor Industries. "This solution is a true game-changer and we are proud to say that we are one of the first award organizations to recognize this."

Brian Platte Lifetime Achievement Award

The Brian Platte Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed upon Brian Doyle who has been a strategic and valued member of the InfoPrint Solutions team for 45 years, beginning his career as a programmer and architect and currently holding the title of Consulting IT Architect. He joined IBM in 1966 and transitioned to InfoPrint Solutions when the IBM Printing Systems Division was acquired by Ricoh in 2007. He has been deemed a certified architect from IBM and Opengroup, the open standards consortium.

"Brian Platte is a legend in my field and I am extremely honored to receive this esteemed award that carries his name. Stemming from my days at IBM through to my time at InfoPrint Solutions, I have worked with a team of true innovators to help further and enhance solutions and software such as workflow," said Brian Doyle, Senior IT Architect, InfoPrint Solutions. "The fact that Xplor, a globally-recognized leading organization, has acknowledged my work is incredibly flattering and I am truly proud to see my name alongside Mr. Platte's."

Doyle's foundation of achievement is rooted in his position as a master architect and inventor. He is one of two architects responsible for the development and creation of the InfoPrint Workflow software. This solution, developed in 1997, is used worldwide to support a variety of print and mailroom operations. With InfoPrint Workflow and InfoPrint ProcessDirector (its successor), enterprises can address a wide array of business process challenges related to automation and productivity, while discovering new routes to cost-savings, increased operational sustainability and more visibility into all areas of production. A range of additional offerings have been developed using InfoPrint Workflow as a key component, including InfoPrint Mailroom Integrity, Postal Optimization Services, Business Continuity Services, ADF Sustainability Services and many more.

Doyle is considered a visionary in the industry and has many dedicated followers. He has published a number of white papers, case studies and other articles in publications. Doyle has also been heavily pursued as an industry voice over the years, presenting to customers and peers at such internationally recognized events as On Demand, National Postal Forum, GraphExpo, Xplor and others.

Throughout the past 45 years, Doyle has made significant contributions to the evolution and advancement of the document design industry. Doyle's work has not only aided in InfoPrint Solutions' success, but has informed the overall marketplace that workflow is a solution with many facets -- all of which bring immense value to any organization.
