Slovenian news publisher Delo d.d. adds QuadTech MultiCam register and ribbon control

Press release from the issuing company

Sussex, Wisconsin, USA – Delo, Slovenia's market leading newspaper printer and publisher, has experienced leaps in quality levels and up to 30 percent reduction in start-up waste after upgrading its 64-page manroland Uniset 70 press with QuadTech's Register Guidance and Ribbon Control Systems with its acclaimed MultiCam camera.

The QuadTech equipment has been installed on two towers and two reel-stands of the press, reducing make-ready waste by over 1,000 web meters of printed paper per job. The installation, project managed by manroland, is enabling Delo d.d., which has a daily out put of 500,000 copies and 50 percent of Slovenia's newspaper market, to boost productivity in the supplement and semi-commercial print sector. The MultiCam color-to-color register control camera guides the press to stability faster, during the makeready stage of production. Identifying marks down to 0.36 mm (0.014"), at speeds of up to 17.6 m/s (3,500 ft/min), and making up to 30 searches per second, the camera identifies web-tension upsets immediately so that tolerances are met throughout the production run.

The installation is part of a program to modernize the 11 year-old Uniset press, coinciding with the replacement of a continuous blade inking system by 24 segmented ink keys per cylinder, and with the implementation of  a blanket-washing system .

Expressing delight at the installation, Mr. Jože Živi?, assistant director of the printing centre at Delo, commented: "As Slovenia's leading newspaper publisher, we strive to be at the forefront of technology. The addition of QuadTech camera technology means we can deliver premium value to our customers, in terms of news and reliable, consistent print quality, with minimum waste."
