Standard rolls-out new feeding and finishing solutions at Arvato and Spektrum

Press release from the issuing company

Andover, MA – Standard Finishing Systems, a leading supplier of post-press and paper handling solutions for the graphic arts and print on demand markets, has brought new perfect binding, saddlestitching, folding and paper handling efficiency to two new customers.

Arvato Digital Services has enhanced their already strong feeding and finishing fleet with new Standard Horizon and Standard Hunkeler solutions in California and South Carolina. "Standard has a solid track record providing rugged and reliable gear for our on-demand binderies" said Todd Potrykus, Director, POD, Arvato Digital Services. "The Horizon BQ-270 binder has been a workhorse for us, so the BQ-470 was a natural pick when we wanted more productivity." Arvato also added a new StitchLiner 5500 saddlestitching line at their SC plant, based in part on their experience with two identical lines they operate in CA. "The StitchLiners have been very dependable running multiple shifts," said Potrykus, "so we wanted to replicate that capability at our other facility."

Arvato has also been a long-time user of Hunkeler paper handling, and just added a new Gen6 Roll-to-Stack system in-line with their Océ VarioStream 7650 digital printer. The Hunkeler system is capable of delivering book blocks 2-up or 3-up, as well as slit/merge. Potrykus adds "Our production team has worked with Hunkeler for years, so we know the technology well and are always impressed with system performance and uptime."  Horizon equipment sales were completed by Standard Dealer Print & Finishing Solutions of Placentia, CA.  Arvato Digital Services is a division of Bertelsmann AG, a global media production and services company founded in 1835 that now employs over 100,000 worldwide.

Spektrum Graphics, based in Peekskill, New York, recently purchased a 3-tower Standard Horizon SPF-200A/FC-200A Bookletmaker with MKU-54 Mobile Knife Folder. The bookletmaker features quick and automated setups and changeovers that include folder roller gap settings, while the MKU-54 provides the unique ability to precisely re-fold booklets in-line for mailing applications.

"The new system allows us to produce high-quality booklets that surpass customer expectations, while minimizing set-up times and labor costs", says Dean Medico, Owner at Spektrum Graphics. "We're thrilled to be able to pass lower pricing onto our customers to maximize their ROI - and ours!" The sale was completed by Standard Dealer Print Finishing Systems of South Plainfield, New Jersey. Spektrum Graphics is a leading full service manufacturer of graphic communication products and also owns and operates gothamprinting.com, a full-service color printing and graphic design company for the on-line print marketplace.
