Torraspapel Contributes to "Forest Week"

Press release from the issuing company

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), within the framework of its "Plant for the Planet" campaign, has distributed 40,000 trees in the largest reforestation initiative carried out in Spain.

With the aim of celebrating "World Forest Day" on March 21, the UN "Plant for the Planet" campaign installed a garden tent in Madrid's Puerta del Sol, a large square in the city center, where it distributed 40,000 trees, thereby adding to the 25 million that have already been planted during the campaign and making Spain the European leader in reforestation and second in the world, after the United States.

Pledges to plant trees and information on trees already planted (place, date, species, etc.) can be registered on the campaign's official website http://www.unep.org/billiontreecampaign/.  The campaign promotes the planting of indigenous trees or other species suited to the local environment while the website offers information and practical advice about planting trees as well as reforestation initiatives and other related matters.  The goal of the campaign is to plant 7 billion trees by the end of 2009: one tree per inhabitant.
