Ricoh Intros new wide format imaging systems

Press release from the issuing company

WEST CALDWELL, N.J., -- Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment, today introduced two wide format digital imaging systems with color scanning capability, the Aficio MP W5100 and MP W7140. These products signify the company's first entry into the high-volume, wide format marketplace, which is classified as any wide format machine capable of producing outputs at 10 pages per minute (ppm) or more. Combining fast outputs speeds, user simplicity and smart engineering, the Aficio MP W5100 and MP W7140 enable users to handle large, highly detailed job sets quickly and efficiently and streamline document workflow.

The Aficio MP W5100/MP W7140 feature fast output speeds up to 10 and 14 ppm respectively, placing them near the top of the market amongst their competitors. In addition to the high speeds, the products offer high resolution color scanning at up to 1200 dots per inch (dpi) with the included TWAIN driver and expanded flexibility by enabling users to configure the system in exactly the way their business requires in order to optimize unique workflows. A comprehensive selection of color or black-and-white scanning options including Scan-to-email, Scan-to-Folder and Scan-to-FTP also enable users to create and distribute documents in a number of different ways, providing compatibility with a variety of formats. Additionally, documents of extensive sizes and types including architectural drawings, sepias, blueprints, detailed maps, folded or wrinkled documents, oversized drawings, photos or posters can all be scanned through the built-in color scanner. Project documents can also be scanned directly into an electronic plan room for easy viewing by other architects, engineers or contactors.

"Ricoh is excited to be entering the high-volume wide format market, as we see it as a great opportunity to extend our innovation and reliability through a new set of advanced products," said Linda Maxwell-Allen, senior product manager, Ricoh Americas Corporation. "The advanced capabilities of the Aficio MP W5100 and MP W7140 are ideal for designers, architects and engineers that need to handle a variety of sophisticated projects in-house. The two products are truly high productivity tools that can help these professionals work smarter, improve collaboration, share more efficiently and ultimately finish projects in a more timely and cost-effective manner."

An internal 320 GB Document Server enables users to temporarily store documents and view them on the control panel or on a PC for easy reprinting. Tedious document updating is also eliminated on the Aficio MP W5100/MP W7140 by capturing as-builts, handwritten on-site changes and color markups and then integrating them with satellite imagery, photographs and maps to create complete bid sets.

Furthermore, the system can be managed remotely through the WebImageMonitor, which enables users to view documents on the Document Server, monitor supply levels, check job details, assign email notifications to team members, remotely cancel jobs and reboot the system from anywhere on the network. Job sets can also be assembled from prints, copies and scans remotely via the Document Server. Advanced security features including Windows Authentication and PDF Encryption can also be managed remotely, keeping documents safe at every stage of printing and distribution.

The optional RW-7140 Controller, which will be available in August 2009, provides enhanced printing features. The controller is capable of printing crystal clear black-and-white output, as well as enhancing color output from an inkjet printer with closed-loop calibration to improve scanning and print workflow. The color editor enables users to reduce noise, change alignment, optimize the histogram, improve black-and-white point type and crop or scale images and then print to the Aficio MP W5100/MP W7140 or an inkjet printer. The RW-7140 Controller scan option provides the ability to merge and edit scanned documents, making complicated revisions easy to implement. It also ensures easy retrieval of stored documents by scanning directly to the machine's archive while immediately capturing key metadata such as project name, account number, customer name, page number and title block.
