Agfas' Dotrix Modular awarded Best Industrial Printing Solution

Press release from the issuing company

Mortsel, Belgium -- Agfa Graphics announced today that the European Digital Press Association has rewarded the :Dotrix Modular for the 'Best Industrial (Speciality) Printing Solution of the Year 2009'. EDP acts as a recognised industry forum and groups publishers of leading European magazines who are all devoted to digital printing and associated products. They cover 14 European countries and address more than 1million professional readers.

“The award is given for introducing enhancements to modularity concept, improved VDP (Variable Data Printing) and compatibility with existing workflows.” :Dotrix received a special mention “for its better and more flexible material options.”

:Dotrix introduced the first single pass inkjet press on the market. On the :Dotrix Modular, four CMYK printing stations are mounted above the web covering a full width of 63cm. :Dotrix uses Agfa Graphics UV curable inks which results in the widest range of applications from flexible packaging, labels, folding carton to plastic bags.

“It is not a surprise that :Dotrix technology is seen as the most versatile and flexible solution for industrial printing applications”, said Jan Soenen, Business Line Manager for the :Dotrix products at Agfa Graphics. “We use an industrial flexo press from Edale as the base of the system. This guarantees the systems highly accurate and stable web transport. The press also allows pre- and post coating flexo modules plus finishing options.  Agfa Graphics' dedicated single-pass inkjet color engine (SPICE) with its CMYK imaging heads, is integrated in this base unit. It forms the digital heart of the system and makes the :Dotrix the most flexible 24m/min digital single pass solution for narrow and medium web.

We are extremely happy that EDP has noticed the versatility of our system. The system prints on substrates ranging from 450gsm folding cartons to ultra thin 25µ PE foils. One of our customers uses this stretchable PE material in its day-to-day production of plastic carrying bags.”

The Dotrix comes as a single (:Dotrix Modular) or as a double sided solution (:Dotrix Transcolor).
