Canon U.S.A. Showcases Its Imagepress C7000VP And Digital Printing Workflow Solutions At On Demand

BOSTON, April 17, 2007 – At AIIM On Demand, Canon U.S.A., Inc., today made a number of hardware- and software-related announcements of new solutions designed to enhance the digital printing workflow experience for corporate users, print services providers and production printers, among others. The Company also showcased it new imagePRESS C7000VP digital press and related imagePRESS workflow solutions in the Canon booth (#1400). “The results of Canon’s continued commitment to and investment in innovative digital workflow solutions and technologies can be seen in products like our new imagePRESS C7000VP digital press, which have enabled us to exceed customer expectations and be a market leader. We will be showcasing our solutions and technologies that are designed to assist with the automation and integration of digital workflow processes, helping to grow an organization’s digital printing capabilities and realize a competitive advantage,” said Tod Pike, senior vice president and general manager, Imaging Systems Group, Canon U.S.A. “We are also excited to be putting the spotlight on our new imagePRESS C7000 VP digital press, which is on target to begin shipping to customers this quarter.” Canon solutions at the show include: New Digital Scanning Solutions – Canon unveiled three new digital scanning products to complement the Company’s award-winning line of scanning solutions. The new Canon ScanFront 220*, a sleek, simple-to-use network scanner, provides the ability to preview captured images on 8.4-inch touch-screen; scan-to-e-mail, -file, - FTP, - USB drive; and takes up less desk space than most competitive models. The new Canon DR-2050SP scanner provides users with an array of document imaging tools to optimize data capture, document management and archival workflows, as well as acts as a versatile presentation tool for the boardroom or the classroom with its Scan-to-Projector functions. Ideal for Check 21 remote check capture application, the CR-25 is a new addition to the CR-Series of check transports. With its compact design, it offers high-quality image capture for reliable and easy electronic check processing. imagePRESS Workflow Solutions – The imagePRESS Workflow Solutions program is a collection of Canon-branded and third-party hardware and software solutions that focus on key workflows and production printing environments to maximize efficiencies, and help printers build a profitable digital print business. At AIIM On Demand, Canon demonstrated several solutions that will help imagePRESS customers integrate their new digital press into their existing workflows, automate and streamline production processes to increase efficiency and productivity, and offer new services and solutions to their customers to grow their business. Canon and Heidelberg, a member of the imagePRESS Workflow Solutions program, demonstrated how the imagePRESS C7000VP can integrate into traditional offset workflows. This integration, first announced by the two companies last fall, will be previewed at AIIM On Demand with a customized option in the Prinect Digital Print Manager that streamlines jobs to the imagePRESS C7000VP. The integration provides customers who have a Prinect workflow to leverage the investments they have already made while incorporating digital printing into the services they offer to their customers. Canon U.S.A. introduced Objective Advantage as the newest member of the imagePRESS Workflow Solutions program. Objective Advantage demonstrated how print service providers can streamline and automate their digital production workflows and maximize their return on investment using Objective Advantage’s OASymbio application and Canon’s imagePRESS digital presses. OASymbio utilizes JDF to streamline production processes, from file submission via a web to print application, through production at a digital press, and prepopulating finishing equipment with information about the job. Canon demonstrated the integration of the latest release of EFI’s Digital StoreFront 3.0 web-to-print platform with Canon and EFI solutions. The new version of Digital StoreFront was demonstrated with the EFI Logic business management software, the Fiery JDF Connector, imagePRESS Server A3000 based on EFI’s newest Fiery platform and the imagePRESS C7000VP. The demonstration highlighted how print service providers can streamline their business and production workflows as information about the job gathered in Digital StoreFront can be populated into other solutions. Canon will make Digital StoreFront 3.0 generally available on May 1st. Also demonstrated in the Canon booth was the recently developed integration of MicroPress with the Color imageRUNNER C5180. MicroPress is EFI’s color and black-and-white raster-based workflow solution. MicroPress connectivity kits for the Color imageRUNNER C5180 are currently available from Canon. Canon U.S.A. also announced that beginning this summer it will begin distributing Bitstream’s Pageflex Persona Cross Media Suite. Persona, a desktop software package enables the creation of database-driven variable data print (VDP) and personalized HTML e-mails, provides imagePRESS C7000VP owners with new services to generate revenue from existing and new customers and grow their business. imageWARE PrePress Manager – Canon announced the availability of its imageWARE PrePress Manager software that helps enable print room operators to better control and manage prepress, printing and finishing workflow. imageWARE PrePress Manager provides print shop operators with an intuitive interface complete with detailed page layout viewing options. With support for detailed document imposition, registration marks, spine editing and binding options, imageWARE PrePress Manager makes job creation simple. imageWARE PrePress Manager is also ideal for supporting variable data applications, allowing users to easily define variable content on the page and link these areas to OBDC compliant database fields. With support for configurable hot folders, JDF, and its own Print Job Manager, imageWARE PrePress Manager can be easily configured to automate print shop workflow for delivery of production output to both Canon and non-Canon devices. Canon’s Multifunctional Embedded Application Platform (MEAP) Announcements – Canon was the first manufacturer in the industry to launch an MFP software development platform in 2003. The Java-based MEAP development environment provides a platform for the creation of unique applications, customizing the interaction between users and Canon’s devices, while tying tightly into a user’s specific workflow. Today, Canon announced that Sepialine, a developer of business expense applications targeting the architectural, engineering and construction markets, has licensed the MEAP Software Developers Kit (SDK) to develop customizable print and copy tracking and billing solution for Canon imageRUNNER MFPs. Sepialine joins a long list of Canon Alliance Partners that have developed solutions based on Canon’s proprietary MEAP technology, including Ribstone, Equitrac, Pharos, eCopy, nQueue and Copitrak, among others. imagePROGRAF Developers Support Program – Canon also announced that the Company’s Developer Support Program (DSP) has been extended to the imagePROGRAF line of large format printers. The DSP will provide third party software developers with Software Development Kits (SDKs), tools, and technical support via the Canon Developer Support Web site to assist in the seamless development of Raster Image Processing (RIP) software for the various imagePROGRAF large format printer models.
