Astro-Dynamic Adds ImagePRESS C7000VP

Press release from the issuing company

Burlington, N.J., March 31, 2008 – Canon Business Solutions, Inc., a subsidiary of Canon U.S.A. and leading provider of document imaging and office solutions, today announced that Astro-Dynamic Print & Graphic Services of Warminster,Pennsylvania, has installed the Canon imagePRESS C7000VP digital press to support the commercial printer’s growing need for digital print services.

With customer orders for short-run and on-demand printing -- catalogues, booklets, brochures, and postcards -- in high demand at Astro-Dynamic, the Canon imagePRESS C7000VP was selected to enable a more efficient and cost-effective approach to meeting customer needs. In addition, Astro-Dynamic uses the digital press to apply new cross-over techniques, which integrates its existing offset with advanced digital devices to drive productivity.

“We needed a solid solution like the imagePRESS C7000VP because customer demand for short-run digital print services had outgrown the production capabilities of our current fleet of devices,” said Darrel Dundore, owner, Astro-Dynamic Print & Graphic Services.

“After surveying many of the digital solutions on the market, we found that Canon’s equipment and technology provided the highest quality impressions at efficient speeds, while complementing our existing offset output. Also, using the new press we are able to provide customers with advanced customization options, including color matching to ensure a consistent print quality,” added Dundore.

The Canon imagePRESS C7000VP, which began shipping in June 2007, represents the largest single engine R&D investment in Canon’s history.  Capable of printing images with a level of quality that rivals offset printing, the imagePRESS C7000VP maintains engine speed regardless of media weight, including print speeds of 70ppm on media up to 110 lb. cover.  In its first six months of shipping in 2007, the imagePRESS C7000VP captured 36 percent of the production print market for color engines in the 70-90ppm segment for the entire 2007 calendar year, according to Gartner Dataquesti.

“Astro-Dynamic’s investment in the imagePRESS C7000VP brings the company, and others similar to it, a solution for producing more short-run work and new, cutting-edge applications to better meet customer needs and expand their business,” said Dennis Uhniat, executive vice president, Canon Business Solutions, Inc.  “With a new, powerful production engine built to provide high-quality on-demand printing, the imagePRESS C7000VP offers output that rivals offset image quality, helping companies capitalize on digital printing opportunities and hopefully, increase their profitability.”

Astro-Dynamic integrated the imagePRESS C7000VP into its existing array of equipment with confidence in its ability to uphold production based on the success of other Canon equipment on site. Other products in use at Astro-Dynamic include the Canon imageRUNNER 9070, a 90 ppm monochrome printer; the Canon CLC 4000, a 40 ppm color digital laser copier; and the Canon imagePROGRAF W8400, a 44-inch large-format, six-color inkjet printer.
