Advanced Versions of KODAK DARWIN VI Authoring Tool Debut at AIIM ON DEMAND

Press release from the issuing company

BOSTON, April 19 -- The KODAK DARWIN VI Authoring Tool is now available to help users of QUARKXPRESS 7 software design, author and manage variable data communications. Kodak announced the compatibility today at the 2007 AIIM ON DEMAND Conference and Exposition, along with several enhancements designed to maximize the effectiveness of printed direct mail campaigns. Widely used by designers, advertising agencies and marketing professionals for direct marketing through personalization, the DARWIN VI authoring tool converts QUARKXPRESS 7 software documents into variable information documents in which all elements—text, graphics, colors, layout, charts, background, and even entire pages—can be dynamic. The DARWIN VI authoring tool can handle extremely large databases and create complex campaigns comprised of many variations of variable elements without the need for scripting or programming. “Personalized communications are delivering rising response rates and higher ROI for marketers,” said Judi Hess, General Manager, Enterprise Solutions, Kodak’s Graphic Communications Group, and Vice President, Kodak. “As a result, our customers are facing increased demand for more creative and effective one to one communications. The KODAK DARWIN VI Authoring Tool gives QUARKXPRESS 7 software users a powerful yet easy to use variable data solution that can help them grow their businesses.” This latest version of DARWIN VI authoring software supports all industry leading VDP output formats, including PPML/VDX streamlined with the line of KODAK NEXPRESS Digital Production Color Presses. The authoring tool also supports CREO Variable Print Specification (VPS), XEROX VIPP, PPML, optimized POSTSCRIPT, and PDF output formats. Driven by simple rules based logic, this new version includes rules enhancements for improved productivity and design freedom, as well as the ability to create multiple barcode types including EAN8, EAN 13, Barcode 128, Barcode 11, Barcode 39, Barcode 93, Codabar, FIM and MSI. The DARWIN VI authoring tool for QUARKXPRESS 7 software will be demonstrated at the Quark Inc. booth (801) at AIIM ON DEMAND. DARWIN software also supports ADOBE INDESIGN software, compatible with both MAC OS and WINDOWS OS. The WINDOWS edition of DARWIN software includes a personalized images feature that creates graphically rich images for high impact variable data print (VDP) jobs, and direct connectivity to external databases, providing linkage to server based data and images, streamlining workflow and saving disk space. Kodak will show as a technology demonstration at AIIM ON DEMAND the WINDOWS version of DARWIN VI authoring tool for ADOBE INDESIGN CS3 software. The WINDOWS edition is used to drive the variable data print capabilities of the KODAK Web-to-print Solutions. Using the DARWIN VI authoring tool and its Web Composition Solution capabilities, Kodak’s new Web-to-print Solutions now offer optional VDP features via a templated VDP solution integrated with the store front. This feature provides print buyers with an easy to use mechanism to order highly personalized print applications designed to provide strong rates of response and return on investment. An agreement between Kodak and MindFireInc, the leader in linking direct mail with the web, further powers printed direct mail applications by helping DARWIN VI authoring tool users combine the power of printed direct mail campaigns with personalized URLs and web pages. Adding this web function drives better conversion of prospects, response profiling, and tracking of campaign results. Kodak is offering a special promotion for MindFire’s LookWho’sClicking web based application suite and DARWIN software users. For more information, visit the Kodak booth (1515).
