Torraspapel Obtains EMAS Environmental Certification

Press release from the issuing company

(June 17, 2008) In its last Environmental Report, Torraspapel, part of the Lecta Group, assumed the commitment of obtaining the European EMAS environmental certification of all of its mills in 2008. As an example of the effort that the Group's production centres are making towards this goal, at the end of 2007 the Algeciras mill obtained EMAS certification and in early 2008 the Sarrià, Sant Joan, Motril and Zaragoza plants passed the corresponding audits, meaning that 100% of coated paper and pulp production now complies with the strict environmental standards of the EU's EMAS management and auditing system. In the coming months, it is expected that the self-adhesive and specialty factories will also be certified, with the result that by the end of 2008 all of Torraspapel's production will hold the ISO 9001 quality certification and the ISO 14001 and EMAS environmental certifications.

The EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) is a voluntary system designed to foster continuous improvement in the environmental performance of public and private organisations by means of:

•    Implementing an environmental management system

•    Systematic, periodical and objective evaluation of this system

•    Informing the public and interested parties

•    Training and active involvement of employees

This system is based on the ISO 14001 environmental management standard, also requiring the drafting of a public environmental statement verified by an external auditor.

EMAS is a symbol of modern environmental management, transparency and environmental participation.
