Clemson Hosts Third Annual Printing Leadership Forum

Press release from the issuing company

CLEMSON, SC – March 12, 2008 - Over the next 10 years, 50 percent of the members of upper management are expected to stop working as the surge of baby boomers approaches retirement age, and our industry must be prepared to respond. Aptly themed, "The Evolving Face of Graphic Communications," the Third Annual Bill Treadaway Print Leadership Forum, held Jan. 31, 2008 at Clemson University, covered a broad range of timely related topics including accountability, corporate rebranding, the state of the industry, company culture and global warming. More than 330 students, alumni, university faculty, and interested industry participants attended the day-long event.

Keynote speaker Maury Hiers of Partners in Leadership led an interactive session focused on the skills and attitudes necessary to create a culture of accountability. Larry Kroll, Vice President of Heidelberg's Print Media Academy, discussed the process of transitioning a new generation of industry owners, employees, markets, and equipment. Kevin Joyce, Chief Marketing Officer of Kodak Graphic Communications group and Vice President of Eastman Kodak Company, addressed the topic of "Rebranding An Icon." Michael Makin, President and CEO of PIA/GATF provided an overview of market trends and an economic outlook for print industry leaders and laggards. The afternoon session wrapped up with a call to environmental action by the Derek Smith, president of Derek Smith Associates, who called for individuals and companies to calculate their own carbon footprint and make efforts to reduce it. Rick Green, President of Green Communications Strategies, closed the event with an insightful look at company culture and commitment.

"This year's forum was our best ever, with terrific participation by students, faculty, and the industry," said Steve Johnson, Chair of the Treadaway Steering Committee. "We are excited that the funds made available by the Forum's supporters are being used to provide on-going leadership development initiatives at Clemson University."

Sponsors of the 2008 Treadaway Forum included Adobe Systems (Platinum); Copac Incorporated, R.R. Donnelley-State, and Southern Graphic Systems (Gold); BCM Inks, Classic Graphics, CL&D Graphics, Cyrel Packaging Graphics, Exopack LLC, Flint Group, Harper Corporation, Kodak, MacDermid Printing Solutions, PICA Foundation, and Sealed Air Corporation (Silver); and Alliance Display & Packaging, A Division of Rock-Tenn Company, HBP Incorporated, Keys Printing, Pratt Corporation, and Think Patented (Bronze).
