Screen's Trueflow Joins the Canon imagePRESS Workflow Program

Press release from the issuing company

ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. March 3 2008 - Screen (USA) today announced that the company has joined the Canon imagePRESS Workflow Solutions Program, and will co-market with Canon U.S.A., Inc. the use of Screen's flagship prepress production workflow product, Trueflow SE, with Canon's imagePRESS digital printing presses. As a part of the program, Screen and Canon will promote the unique benefits for print providers of employing a hybrid workflow solution to drive print-on-demand devices in an offset-digital environment.

To support the alliance, Canon and Screen will demonstrate at the On Demand Conference & Exposition how print providers can seamlessly integrate critical production processes into their digital workflow using Canon imagePRESS digital presses and Trueflow SE. The demonstration will showcase the compatibility of Screen's PDF- and JDF- based technology and the imagePRESS C7000VP and imagePRESS C1 digital presses for the commercial printing arena.

"We are pleased to have Trueflow SE deliver greater flexibility, power and performance to Canon's state-of-the-art presses," said Mike Fox, president of Screen (USA). "Printing companies are always looking for more and better ways to differentiate themselves from their competition. This agreement combines Canon's expertise in developing high-quality digital equipment and Screen's record of customer-proven workflow technologies. Together, Screen and Canon will increase business opportunities, competitiveness and profitability for customers."

Canon's imagePRESS Workflow Solutions Program is a collection of Canon-branded and third-party hardware and software solutions that focus on key workflows in production printing environments to maximize efficiencies and help printers build solutions and grow a profitable digital business.

"Workflow integration, including integration with one's prepress applications and processes, is critical when growing and managing a successful digital business," said Janet Cain, senior director, Imaging Systems Group, Canon U.S.A., Inc. "The addition of Screen to our Workflow Solutions Program will enable users to better leverage their investment in Screen technology and seamlessly integrate the imagePRESS digital press into their existing digital and offset production processes."

With Trueflow SE, one workflow application drives Canon customers' separate output systems. Trueflow SE creates a powerful universal workflow capable of managing production to multiple computer-to-plate (CTP), digital presses and proofing systems. This universal workflow generates the necessary data for printers to quickly use output devices on demand, helping save time and money and accelerate turnarounds.

Trueflow SE can help improve production reliability and profitability by capitalizing on the strengths of PDF for content definition and the JDF standard for job ticketing and process control. It enables consistent PDF preparation, in addition to eliminating manual prepress production for digital printing. It integrates the capabilities of preflight, color management, trapping and imposition.

Incorporating Adobe PDF Print Engine (APPE) native PDF-rendering technology, Trueflow SE provides a reliable PDF platform and removes unnecessary data and file conversions that interrupt the workflow and cause efficiency loss. The integrity of file input and output, and output consistency, is maintained throughout the production process. Another major function in Trueflow SE is the ability to make late-stage content corrections if necessary, without the time-consuming requirements of going back to native applications.

As a full JDF production workflow, Trueflow SE strengthens links for transmission of job ticket information to management information systems, pressroom and postpress.

Visitors to the Canon booth (#1416) at the On Demand Conference & Exposition, March 3-6 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, can see demonstrations of Trueflow SE and the imagePRESS C7000VP and imagePRESS C1. In booth #457, Screen will present the Truepress Jet520 variable data inkjet printer.
