QualityLogic Showcases XPS Tools At Ondemand

Press release from the issuing company

MOORPARK, CA – MARCH 3, 2008 – QualityLogic (www.qualitylogic.com) is showcasing its XPS preflight tools and utilities this week at AIIM/OnDemand, March 3-6, in the XPSLand Showcase pavilion at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in Boston, MA. A pioneer in developing the XPS technology, QualityLogic is the leading supplier of XPS test and quality assurance products for the print industry.

XPS (XML Paper Specification) is the print path and also a page description format included in Microsoft Windows Vista and the latest Microsoft Office suites. Industry experts estimate that creating XPS documents will eventually be enabled free of charge on 90% of all desktops. As this change occurs, printers and publishers will need the ability to process these files.

QualityLogic's XPREF is a family of cross platform products that provide preflight, workflow automation and document optimization for XPS document files. XPREF is designed for OEMs who need to integrate the processing of XPS document files with existing print production systems. It consists of modules for Preflight, Optimization and PDF conversion, all based on the XPREF XOM library, the most advanced XPS library available today.

XPREF preflights XPS files and optimizes the code inside the files to eliminate ambiguities that could impact the imaged-output results. In addition to preflight, XPREF automates workflow by generating JDF files and converting the files to certified PDF, the predominant file format processed by workflow and imaging systems. QualityLogic believes XPS to PDF conversion is only successful if the starting point is a good XPS file.

The XPREF library components allow any software developer to quickly build applications which can analyze XPS files, identify problems that would cause print or display problems and automatically correct the deficiencies. The library can also support any number of potential XPS applications that require cross-platform capability with exceptional speed and quality.

QualityLogic is also demonstrating the prototype of an end-user version of XPREF. This version provides a simple interface for professional content producers and print organizations to ensure that XPS files, targeted for commercial in-plant or on-demand printing, are optimized for the target printing system.

In addition, QualityLogic is demonstrating QualityLogic XPS eXaminer and two other utilities.

QualityLogic XPS eXaminer is a developer tool that validates XPS syntax, displays the XPS document and XML mark-up, and allows easy correction of the XML and review of the corrected document in real-time.

QualityLogic XPS PrintTicketer edits XPS print-ticket settings and attaches them at any level, enabling the attachment of a single print ticket to multiple XPS containers. It allows editing of all XPS print schema-defined parameters, including user-defined private keys. This is particularly useful because XPS emitters often fail to include such print tickets, resulting in print malfunctions. All 100 XPS standard keywords plus OEM-specific parameters or keywords are supported.

QualityLogic XPStamps can stamp text, or place a watermark or image on a page in an XPS document.

An XPS Workflow-Tool Backgrounder is available in the QualityLogic booth. It discusses the challenges XPS-workflow product developers face in bringing products to market, and outlines QualityLogic's business strategy to meet these challenges.
