Bowne Names Beitler Chief Information Officer Will Lead Business Integration, Technology and Manufacturing

NEW YORK, NY, November 26 2007 - Bowne & Co., Inc., a leader in shareholder and marketing communications services, today announced the appointment of Elaine S. Beitler to Senior Vice President, Manufacturing, Business Integration and Chief Information Officer.
"Clients are increasingly looking for a cross-section of our services and solutions to meet their broadening and changing needs. In addition to serving as CIO, Elaine will have an integral role in developing the technology and digital and offset manufacturing infrastructure necessary to deliver customized, comprehensive solutions to our clients," said David J. Shea, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bowne. "Elaine will also lead our integration activities, as strategic acquisitions continue to be a key component of our growth strategy."
Prior to this appointment, Ms. Beitler, 48, served as President of Bowne Marketing and Business Communications, which has been consolidated into one unified organization with Bowne Financial Communications. Bowne has combined its two business units in response to the evolving needs of its clients, who are increasingly asking for services that span Bowne's full range of offerings, from transactional printing and compliance reporting to high-volume offset printing and personalized, digital marketing communications.
Previously, Ms. Beitler served as Senior Vice President and General Manager, Bowne Enterprise Solutions, and prior to that was Chief Technology Officer. She joined the Company in 1998.
