WALTHAM, MA -- ZINK Imaging, the innovators behind the recently unveiled zero-ink digital printing technology, today announced its intent to purchase a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Whitsett, North Carolina from Konica Minolta Manufacturing U.S.A., Inc. (KMMU). This plant will manufacture ZINK paper which will be used in ZINK-enabled printers.

The patented ZINK paper is an advanced composite material with dye crystals embedded inside and a protective polymer overcoat layer outside. Before printing, the embedded dye crystals are clear, so ZINK paper looks like regular white photo paper. A ZINK-enabled printer uses heat to activate and colorize these dye crystals. The printing process is now radically simple. Just add paper and press "print." The result is high quality, long-lasting, durable and affordable images.

KMMU is a coating and chemical mix facility originally built in 1989 for production of a variety of imaging products and is located in Whitsett, North Carolina. ZINK Imaging will hire and leverage the expertise of the employees of the KMMU site to assist in the manufacturing of ZINK's paper.
