WorkflowOne's Goshen Facility Passes Safety Milestone: One Million Hours without a Lost Time Accident

Press release from the issuing company

Dayton, Ohio, August 28, 2007 — WorkflowOne announced today that its Goshen, Ind., plant passed a milestone last month, marking one million man-hours – more than four years – without a lost-time accident. The Goshen facility joins over 20 other WorkflowOne plants and warehouses that have gone more than a year without a lost-time accident.
WorkflowOne is a leading provider of print and promotional products and supply chain management services across the U.S. The Goshen plant manufactures labels, business forms and other printed items that help organizations operate more efficiently.
"Employee safety is a major focus at WorkflowOne," said Mark Harper, manager of environmental, health, safety and security at WorkflowOne. "We are proud that two-thirds of our distribution centers have exceeded one year without a lost-time accident. Not only are we protecting the health and welfare of our most important assets – our employees – but we're also controlling costs, which allow us to remain competitive in the marketplace."
WorkflowOne's safety program is a co-operative venture between headquarters and the individual facilities that starts with education and awareness. Corporate provides brief "Safety Minutes" on a variety of topics on a weekly basis, along with safety statistics and news on emerging trends shared on a monthly basis. Monthly conference calls and a quarterly newsletter share best practices in safety among the facilities.  The company also has a "Safety Excellence Challenge" program that monitors safety at each location against pre-determined standards. Facilities are rewarded with banners and a corporate-sponsored luncheon when they attain those standards.
In 2005, the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the printing industry and related support activities (NAICS 323) logged over 1,000,000 nonfatal occupational injuries and illnesses. These incidents resulted anywhere from one day away from work (over 177,000 cases) to more than 31 days (over 300,000 cases). In addition, most cases involved workers with one to five years of service with an employer (over 419,000), closely followed by those with more than five years of service (over 380,000).
"A safe workplace is a productive workplace, and WorkflowOne strives to be outstanding in both regards," said Harper. In addition to the Goshen plant, a number of other plants and warehouses have attainted multi-year safety milestones: 5 have achieved more than 3 years without a lost-time accident, 2 have achieved more than 4 years, 4 have achieved more than 5 years, and 2 have exceeded 10 years.
