Impoze Software Automates PIB Reporting Data for Publishers
Press release from the issuing company
SUSSEX, WI -- QuadSystems announces plans to use its Impoze software to help publishers digitally report Share of Market Data to the Publishers Information Bureau (PIB), advancing the immediacy and accuracy of the data.
Under the guidance of the Magazine Publishers of America (MPA) and IDEAlliance, QuadSystems undertook a first stage compliance test with TNS Media Intelligence (TNS MI) and Conde Nast Publications to utilize Impoze software as a digital reporting mechanism for share of market data. The test was successfully concluded and a second end-to-end test will be executed shortly. PIB members report their data directly to TNS MI, which collects and monitors more than 250 major consumer magazine advertising occurrences and rate card revenues, and verifies publisher advertising data for PIB. Under the current reporting system, copies of all versions of each publication, including demographic/regional editions, are submitted to TNS MI, where all the advertising-related information is compiled to provide the market-share data for the industry. Before 2006, the process required manual page turning to verify what publishers were reporting. As of February 2006, all PIB publications are now scanned through high-volume, high-resolution scanners, and then fed through a digital-based collection system that processes the data. Electronic queues flag when manual intervention is necessary.
"It is a cumbersome and time consuming process to compile all of this information manually," said Dennis Davidson, QuadSystems Product Manager. "With the implementation of QuadSystems' enhanced Impoze software and the technological improvements made by TNS MI, over time we should see dramatic improvements in the compliance reporting and return of share of market data."According to Suzie Ross, Vice President of Special Projects for TNS: "Conversion to a digital process will enable us to report magazine advertising revenues and ad pages in what will be very close to real time, allowing TNS MI to supply this valuable information to the marketplace as much as a month earlier. Publishers who adopt this process will find a significant reduction in the time and effort required to send not only the publication, but regional information and all other corresponding advertising-related materials to TNS MI."
Marc Zdanow, Production Systems Manager for Conde Nast Publications, said: "Impoze is the primary tool used in our production process, from beginning to end. This functionality ñ the ability to streamline our data into the one file and use it as a digital reporting mechanism combined with TNS having the ability to accept standardized electronic data upgrading their reporting process ñ is another cobblestone in the road toward establishing an industry standard that benefits everyone." "We are pleased to see the industry working together to develop streamlined systems that allow us to release information in a timelier manner," said Wayne Eadie, PIB President. "We applaud the leadership demonstrated by CondÈ Nast, QuadSystems, TNS MI and IDEAlliance in moving the PIB/XML initiative forward."
Upon conclusion of the second test, QuadSystems will make the documentation and functionality activation available to all of its current Impoze clients. More than half of the top 100 U.S. publishers use Impoze software for the planning, manufacturing and distribution of its titles. The industry standard, Impoze streamlines and condenses workflow throughout planning, production, printing and distribution, cutting significant time from the production cycle.
