Baton Rouge Daily Newspaper, The Advocate, to Update and Automate with Total Solution from Agfa

Press release from the issuing company

Ridgefield Park, NJ August 30, 2006 -- Agfa Graphics announced today that The Advocate, the daily newspaper in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, will add a total solution from Agfa with the :Arkitex workflow system and two :Advantage DL platesetters. This is part of The Advocate’s plan to automate all production tasks at the newspaper. ":Arkitex is a natural step for us. Our objective is to automate as much of the workflow as possible as we continue to grow. Since we have enjoyed a product partnership with Agfa for over 20 years, we knew Agfa was the vendor to turn to, and our evaluations prove that out," said Barry LeBlanc, manager of the Advocate's 18-member IT department. "Through the web browser and online displays that are part of the :Arkitex system, all users, supervisors and managers will be able to manage their processes -- and their time -- much better than they were able to before." LeBlanc also added that the :Advantage DL platesetters will provide improvements in scheduling and cost expenditures. The Advocate, owned by Capital City Press LLC, is in the process of building a new and larger production facility, which will be completed at the end of October 2006. It is in the new plant where LeBlanc, his team and The Advocate's management plan to debut the new workflow. The newspaper has a daily circulation of just over 100,000 and a Sunday circulation of over 140,000. "Agfa's total automated solution opens a window into the entire operation, keeping production personnel in complete control of the workflow. That raises the level of quality, lowers downtime and helps the staff meet tighter deadlines," said Sheila Nysko, Agfa's business development manager, Newspaper Systems, North America. "With :Arkitex and :Advantage, newspapers like The Advocate will have a greater level of confidence about the production process, regardless of the level of complexity in their workflow."
