Mohawk Fine Papers Announces Winners of Mohawk Show 7

Press release from the issuing company

[Cohoes, NY] – Mohawk Fine Papers Inc. announces the winners of its seventh annual Mohawk Show. From over1,500 entries, five Best of Shows were selected. This included the traditional top four winners plus this year’s special Identity Excellence award. Twenty finalists, or Awards of Excellence, were also named. The Best of Show winners were printed both domestically and abroad. The five winning entries were printed by: Colorcraft of Virginia, Sterling, VA for AIGA 50 Call for Inspirations; Shapco Printing, Minneapolis, MN for Swarm; RA Printing, Victoria, Australia for Dan Magree Photography Stationery; Whitehouse Graphics, Norristown, PA for Campaign for the Hun School of Princeton; and Graytor, Lyndhurst, New Jersey for Kate Spade New York. More than 1,500 entries were submitted this year, nearly double the number of entries from last year’s show. Laura Shore, Mohawk’s Senior Vice President Communications attributes this to an expanded portfolio of papers due to Mohawk’s 2005 acquisition of the Fine Papers business from International Paper and an increased awareness for the stature of the show, “Printers as well as designers are recognizing the Mohawk Show more each year. Winning this competition has a level of prestige. Since the eligibility has expanded with the new brands, we have the pleasure of seeing that much more work encompassing creativity and superb production.” Any piece produced on Strathmore, Beckett, Mohawk or Via papers is eligible for entry. As it has in former years, Mohawk recruits an esteemed panel of judges to select exceptionally designed and printed works produced on Mohawk papers. The jury included designers: Sean Adams, AdamsMorioka, Beverly Hills, CA; Cheryl Heller, CEO, Heller Communications, NYC; Robert Stone, Founder & Vice President, Stone Yamashita Partners, San Francisco, CA; and Eric Heiman, Principal, Volume SF, also of San Francisco. The judges selected 25 pieces that represented the best print work that is being done in graphic design today. Show Chair, Sean Adams was impressed with the level of work submitted, “These pieces would stand up in any national or international design competition,” says Adams. All five winners as well as the twenty finalists will appear in the Mohawk Show’s traveling exhibit. The five Best of Show winners (see attached photographs and credits) win a four-night prize package to the 2007 Sundance Film Festival (or $3000 cash). Identity Excellence Award For the first time, Mohawk offered an Identity Excellence award. This special award was intended to recognize intelligent design, virtuosity and exceptional marriage of Mohawk paper and ink (see attached photograph and credits).
