Baldwin Wins Tower Clean Order From Norway

Press release from the issuing company

The latest order for a Baldwin Tower Clean system has been placed by Norwegian newspaper printer Orkla Trykk, which is to fit the equipment to a new MAN Cromoman 70 press at its Alesund plant later in the year. Orkla Trykk is one of Norway’s leading newspaper houses, producing a wide range of titles including, Drammens Tidende, Haugesund avis, Sumørsposten and Tønsbergs Blad. The company is a long standing customer of Baldwin and says the excellent support it has received over the years is one of the main reasons it has gone back to Baldwin for this latest purchase. “We have more than 300 Baldwin World and Maxima spray bars in operation on newspaper presses at our five Norwegian sites, so have a very good knowledge of this technology,” says print manager Nils Morten Vestskogen. “Indeed, we’re fitting Maxima spray bars to the new MAN press. What we wanted from our cleaning facilities on the new press was an inexpensive, but effective method of controlling debris on the blankets so that we could ensure maximum productivity. Having studied Tower Clean in great detail we are confident that it will provide us with those benefits.” Baldwin’s Tower Clean is a low cost blanket cleaning system designed for newspaper presses. The modular concept gives the printer the option to install a basic system and expand the level of automation in the future as required. Tower Clean can incorporate a combination of brushes on the blanket, solvent applied to the paper web via an applicator roller and a dampening solution applied to the plate cylinder via spray bars. Whatever the combination, there is the option to add ink train and guide roller cleaning facilities. Tower Clean can easily be retrofitted to existing presses where printers are looking to update older equipment or replace manual cleaning. The Tower Clean system ordered by Orkla Trykk consists of eight applicators and 32 brushes. The low investment cost, improved print quality and extended print cycle result in a short payback period for the Baldwin equipment. There are few moving parts within Tower Clean so service requirements are minimal and maintenance is straightforward.
