Bemis Company Elects New Directors to the Board

NEENAH, Wis.--May 4, 2006-- Bemis Company, Inc. announced that its Board of Directors has declared a regular quarterly cash dividend of 19 cents per share. The dividend is payable on June 1, 2006, to shareholders of record at the close of business on May 19, 2006. The Board of Directors is also pleased to announce that effective today the shareholders have elected two new Board members to replace two directors who are retiring from the Board of Directors. Board Member Retirements Winslow H. Buxton, a director of Bemis since 1993 and the lead independent director since 2004, has not run for re-election to the Board of Directors. Mr. Buxton is the retired Chairman of Pentair, Inc. The Board expressed its gratitude and deep appreciation for his outstanding contributions to the Board. The Board of Directors has elected William J. Bolton as Bemis Company's lead independent director, replacing Winslow H. Buxton. In addition, John G. Bollinger, a director of Bemis since 1999, has not run for re-election to the Board of Directors. Mr. Bollinger is the John Bascom Professor of Industrial Engineering Emeritus and Emeritus Dean of the College of Engineering, University of Wisconsin, Madison. The Board expressed its thanks and sincere appreciation for his service as a member of the Board of Directors. Newly Elected Board Members The Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Mr. Paul S. Peercy, Dean of the College of Engineering, University of Wisconsin, Madison, was elected to the Board of Directors of Bemis Company, Inc. at today's annual meeting of shareholders. Mr. Peercy has been Dean since 1999. From 1995 to 1999, he was President of SEMI/SEMATECH in Austin, Texas. From 1968 to 1995, he served in various positions of the Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mr. Peercy received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Berea College in Berea, Kentucky. He holds a Masters of Science and a Ph.D. degree in physics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the Wisconsin Technology Council. The Board of Directors is also pleased to announce that Mr. Gene C. Wulf, Bemis Company Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, was elected to the Board of Directors of Bemis Company, Inc. at today's annual meeting of shareholders. Gene Wulf joined Bemis in 1975 and has held various finance positions within Bemis Company. He was elected Senior Vice President & Chief Financial Officer in 2005; Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer in 2002; and Vice President and Controller in 1998. Mr. Wulf is a CPA, received his MBA from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, and received his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Dana College in Blair, Nebraska. "We are pleased to welcome Paul Peercy and Gene Wulf to the Bemis Board," said Jeff Curler, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bemis Company, Inc. "Paul's leadership experience and engineering background will be an asset to the Board of Directors and to the Audit Committee, and we look forward to his participation.
