Presstek and Konica Minolta Partner

Press release from the issuing company

Hudson, NH – May 30, 2008 – Presstek, Inc., the leading manufacturer and marketer of digital offset printing business solutions, and Konica Minolta, a leading provider of advanced imaging and networking technologies for the desktop to the print shop, today announced that Presstek will offer the Konica Minolta bizhub PRO C6500 color digital printer as an optional bundled solution with its DI digital offset presses. Presstek will offer this bundled solution to its customer base in a move designed to facilitate the most cost-effective production of a wider range of applications, such as personalized print and ultra-short-run versioned documents for use in direct mail campaigns and other integrated marketing initiatives.

"We believe that our customers will become more profitable and competitive with the expanded range of capabilities and higher quality that this bundle offers than they could with one production volume color toner-based device at the same price point, said Klaus Schleicher, Group Product Director, Digital Printing Business Unit. "We are delighted to be able to offer this outstanding toner-based digital printer to Presstek customers in conjunction with the Presstek 52DI and 34DI digital offset presses."

In today's print market there is a growing demand for the fast turnaround of short-run quantities at a competitive cost per piece. The high level of quality, low cost per page and substrate flexibility of the Presstek DI combined with the variable data printing and ultra-short run capability of the Konica Minolta bizhub PRO C6500 is an ideal solution for satisfying these demands. This bundle can also produce a wide range of applications such as short-run book publishing, versioned print communications and targeted direct mail campaigns. Direct mail offers a significant opportunity for businesses that provide printing services. According to a recent study by industry research organization PRIMIR, demand for direct mail printing is forecasted to be the second strongest sector of the print market in all regions of the world over the next five years, with a growth rate of 18.8 percent.

About the Konica Minolta bizhub PRO C6500 The Konica Minolta bizhub PRO C6500 high speed digital color printing system offers full color toner-based printing at 65 pages per minute, is capable of a duty cycle of 300,000 sheets, and delivers one of the best value/price points in its class.

About the Presstek DI Digital Offset Press The highly automated Presstek DI digital offset press delivers environmentally friendly high quality, short run four-color offset printing, economical in run length quantities as low as 250.  Presstek DI presses produce superior quality by supporting 300 lpi (120 l/cm) printing, as well as stochastic (FM) screening without incurring additional time or expense. With the ability to handle a wide range of substrates from onion skin to heavy card stock, as well as synthetics, the DI press combines the flexibility of a digital workflow with the quality and durability of offset printing. With the DI, no scuff marks occur on the preprinted shells after they go through the toner-based device for versioning or variable data applications.

"With the combination of the Konica Minolta bizhub PRO C6500 and Presstek DI presses," said Junichi Arai, General Manager Production Printing Division of Konica Minolta, "providers of printing services can print high quality offset shells on the Presstek DI press and personalize or version them with the bizhub PRO C6500. This arrangement also provides increased access for Konica Minolta to Presstek's extensive worldwide customer base in the graphic arts industry."

Starting in Q3 2008 in the United States, United Kingdom and other selected countries, Presstek will begin offering the Konica Minolta bizhub PRO C6500 as a bundled option with its 52DI and 34DI digital offset presses.
