Direct Marketing Industry and Senate Leaders Remain United On Need For Strong Postal Reform

Chanhassen, MN (November 8, 2005) — Jim Andersen, President and CEO of leading direct marketing production services company IWCO Direct, and Direct Marketing Association President and CEO John Greco Jr. met with Minnesota Senator Norm Coleman in Washington last week as efforts to reach a compromise on postal reform continue in the Senate. Coleman is co-sponsor of the postal reform bill that recently stalled in the Senate over the inclusion of language that could limit the postal service’s flexibility in setting rates for efficient mailers.
Andersen and Greco applauded Coleman’s continued strong support of reform that would institute a much-needed overhaul of the postal system. “The future of the direct marketing industry depends on creating a more viable and sustainable postal system,” said Andersen. “The postal service’s current 35-year-old business model is ill-suited for today’s fast-paced and increasingly complex communications and delivery landscape.”
The DMA has been working with industry and Senate leaders to encourage a compromise that would once again move the postal reform bill from the negotiating table to the Senate floor. “Senator Coleman understands
the vital role that direct marketing plays in the economy and appreciates the critical need for postal reform legislation,” said Greco.
