Torstar Purchases Ottawa Area Newspapers

TORONTO--Oct. 14, 2005-- Torstar Corporation today announced its wholly-owned subsidiary, Metroland Printing, Publishing & Distributing Ltd., purchased Runge Publishing Inc., publisher of eighteen community newspapers in eastern Ontario, primarily located in the Ottawa valley area, including the Renfrew Mercury, Arnprior Chronicle-Guide, and Kanata Kourier-Standard. This transaction is a continuation of Metroland's strategy of expanding its community newspaper business.
