Sun Chemical Announces World Firsts At Drupa

Press release from the issuing company

DÜSSELDORF, GERMANY − 29 May 2008 − At drupa 2008, Sun Chemical has announced ‘world firsts’ in sheetfed offset UV curing printing inks, advances in water-based printing technology and international strategic partnerships.

Around the theme ‘Working for You,’ Sun Chemical, a PrintCity alliance member, is presenting full details of its products and solutions that deliver quality, service and innovation within the Packaging, Publication, Commercial and Industrial sectors. It is also running the graphic arts industry’s most comprehensive portfolio of inks on the printing presses of most major press manufacturers throughout the exhibition.

A new range of market-leading sheetfed offset process inks for the Commercial sector unveiled at the show builds on the unparalleled success of World Series® launched at drupa 2004. Sun Chemical has also unveiled a ‘world first,’ a new range of UV curing inks – called SUNCURE® Advantage – that comprises around 30 percent sustainable materials.

In Packaging, Sun Chemical is using drupa as the platform for advanced color management solutions for brand owners, designers and printers. In addition, it is showcasing its capabilities across the whole industry sector, including brand enhancement, functional coatings, low migration offset and flexo inks, and sustainable solutions.  Visitors will also have the opportunity to see demonstrations of innovative technologies, such as Wetflex™ and the FastJet® digital press.

For the first time at a drupa show, Sun Chemical is also showing security and brand protection as part of its overall packaging solutions.  Visitors to the show can explore the company’s products, which go from generic entry-level up to very high security proprietary technologies. Sun Chemical’s speciality is product and document authentication, which means being able to distinguish a fake item from the genuine product at the touch of a button using covert machine-readable inks and coatings at any point in the supply chain.
In order to meet the challenges of the printing industry even more effectively, Sun Chemical and UPM-Kymmene, both world leaders in their respective fields, are developing jointly a new magazine paper and ink concept for heatset printing. This is just one of Sun Chemical’s initiatives in the Publication sector which are being communicated on its stand (Hall 6 / Stand B75) to show ways in which printers can enhance print quality and press productivity to help increase operating profits.
Other offerings include a unique, 'next-generation' matrix of products and services, which includes consumables, training, technical service, R&D and value packages for customers.  This robust set of services complements a range of innovative products designed specifically to add value for printers operating in the heatset, coldset and publication gravure markets.
Visitors to Sun Chemical’s stand (Hall 6/ Stand B75) will also be able to get an update on products and services in the Industrial sector, including screen supplies, digital aftermarket, automotive / IMD, containers and credit cards.

“We continuously push the limits of efficiency and strive to adopt the best operational practices to create value and remain competitive,” said David Meldram, president of Sun Chemical Europe. “Drupa is the perfect platform to demonstrate our world-class initiatives that are helping our customers through quality, service and innovation.”
