Presstek Excels at Print 05

Press release from the issuing company

HUDSON, N.H., Sept. 15 -- Presstek, Inc., a leading manufacturer and marketer of environmentally responsible high tech digital imaging solutions for the graphic arts and laser imaging markets, today reported that its Print 05 results exceeded expectations. Print 05 is the largest printing industry conference and exhibit in North America, and was held September 9th to September 15th in Chicago. Print 05 was the first time Presstek had exhibited at a major trade show since acquiring ABDick in late 2004. Presstek's President and CEO Ed Marino stated, "I am excited about the attention Presstek garnered at Print 05. We clearly demonstrated our leadership position in chemistry-free and short-run color printing solutions for the industry. It was gratifying to see the excitement on the part of both Presstek staff and the many attendees that took the time to visit with us. ABDick sales representatives were energized to be offering such a strong portfolio of digital solutions, while customers were eager to see those solutions in action." Marino added, "The proof is in the results -- I believe this was the best exhibit experience in the history of the company." SHOW HIGHLIGHTS Vector TX52 Print 05 was the first major public showing in North America for the Vector TX52, a two-page chemistry-free CTP system that is designed to provide the short-run, small format printer with a metal platemaking platform that offers higher productivity, cleaner operation, and lower materials and production cost. The system's ease-of-use and compact footprint particularly impressed attendees. DI Presses DI represents a growth opportunity for printers that want to tap into the increasing demand for high-quality, quick-turnaround, short-run, four-color work. This is confirmed by research completed by InfoTrends/CAP Ventures in August of 2005. According to the research, it takes roughly half the time to produce a sellable sheet on a DI press as compared to a conventional offset press, and DI presses offer significant margin improvements over conventional offset as well. Peter Bouchard, Presstek's Vice President of Marketing stated, "The robust activity around the DI press during Print 05 clearly shows that the InfoTrends/CAPV research is on the mark. DI presses allow printers to benefit from increased profit levels, reduced makeready times, and the capability to provide new services." A complete copy of the InfoTrends/CAPV report can be downloaded from Presstek's web site, http://www.presstek.com. Aurora Chemistry-free Plates During Print 05, Presstek showcased the new Aurora chemistry-free plates for Screen and Kodak (formerly Creo) thermal CTP systems. Aurora allows a large percentage of the thermal platesetter installed base to benefit from the advantages of a true chemistry-free CTP workflow without compromising quality or throughput. John O'Rourke, Presstek's Director of CTP Consumables stated, "The interest in Aurora was brisk during the show. Attendees were very interested in migrating to Aurora for existing installed third party systems, as well as bundling these plates with the purchase of new Screen PlateRite systems." Facet RIP During Print 05 Presstek demonstrated the new Facet RIP, Powered by EFI. The Facet RIP, which was co-developed by the two companies, is the first offering in a suite of enterprise solutions scaled for the small commercial and in-plant printer. The Facet RIP, sold and supported exclusively by ABDick, is an affordable, high performance digital front-end that is designed to support all Presstek and ABDick branded output devices, creating a unified and highly productive workflow for the smaller shop. PRINT 05 RESULTS -- Over 1,100 qualified sales leads recorded. -- Over $5 million in sales commitments received, representing approximately 100 units of equipment. -- Placement of the largest single service contract for multiple DI installations. -- Validation that Presstek's many years of leadership and innovation in chemistry-free solutions for the printing industry has been a force driving change into the industry. ABDick's Vice President of Sales, Emile Tabassi, stated, "In April of this year, Presstek DI and CTP products were introduced to the ABDick sales channel. In this short period of time, our volume of sales through this channel has been amazing, and now we are poised to establish a dominant digital position in the segments we serve. I'm thrilled to be associated with this team of knowledgeable, dedicated and hard working individuals. I believe that ABDick's sales and service capabilities are second to none." Tabassi added, "Print 05 was a great success for Presstek, and we will leverage this success to propel activity over the next twelve months."
