CHICAGO, September 8, 2005 – During a special ceremony at PRINT '05 in Chicago, Heidelberg will present the 5,000th unit of the Speedmaster CD 74 to Phil Vedda, owner of Phil Vedda & Sons Printing Company in Lakewood, Ohio. Heidelberg will present Vedda with a certificate documenting the purchase of this remarkable press on Monday, Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. at the Heidelberg Booth # 1200 in a special ceremony with Heidelberg Chief Executive Officer Bernhard Schreier. The installation of the new five-color Speedmaster CD 74 with coater at Phil Vedda & Sons is scheduled to begin in late fall of 2005. The 23 x 29-inch press will replace a MAN Roland 300 and primarily will be used to produce four-color work. Vedda said the CD 74 installation comes at an exciting time for the small, family-owned shop. The new CD 74 is, for Vedda, much more than a replacement, it's a major step into the print shop's future. “We're moving into a new facility soon and now is the best time to upgrade our equipment,” said Vedda. “The superior service we've received from Heidelberg in the past played an important role in the purchase of our latest press and we're highly satisfied with our existing Heidelberg prepress, sheetfed offset and bindery equipment. At that time, the straight press was offered with a maximum of eight printing units plus coater. In 2002, Heidelberg began offering the CD 74 with a double coating unit. The perfecting press with a maximum of six units plus coater and the DuoPress configuration became available in 2004. Today, the press is manufactured as a long perfecting press with up to 10 printing units plus coater, offering the largest range of configurations for the half and three-quarter size press.
