Prism Launches QTMS iQ for Advanced Shop-Floor Productivity Management

Press release from the issuing company

Chicago, IL---September 9, 2005 -- Prism USA Holdings, developer of MIS/ERP software products and shop-floor productivity management tools for the printing and graphic arts industry, today launches Prism-QTMS iQ, a print management system comprising machine monitoring modules and custom-developed sensors that automatically record and collate shop-floor information and statistics. These critical data devices enable users to track and reduce waste in their printing plants in order to improve make-ready times and operating procedures. The technology is also used for accurate counting methods to avoid costly over- or under-runs, to manage the control of pallets and to improve the management of customer delivery times. Features new to QTMS iQ include new XML, browser-based tools for managing operations from press and bindery to finished goods. New pallet-tracking modules using wireless LAN and TCP/IP technology provides a complete view of the location of every pallet for each section of a job. For printers running binding machines, complex web presses, and multiple finishing lines, both operators and production management benefit from QTMS iQ. For example, operators use the technology to track job performance of each press, and production management can see the real-time situation plant-wide. By accurately reporting on all the main aspects of a printing operation, QTMS iQ contributes to better decision-making, lower costs and higher profit opportunities. Whether used in standalone mode or integrated into Prism-WIN Management Information System or another leading management information system, QTMS iQ is designed to improve productivity. “Prism-QTMS iQ provides high-speed intelligence for shop-floor operators and management. It's raising the bar on automation by providing essential information both to operators and to management, such as count accuracy and waste reduction--all in real time,” comments Leland Morgan, General Manager of Prism USA Holdings. “QTMS iQ now offers a higher level of sophistication that is unavailable in other products. This is an invaluable tool that helps companies to maximize performance and to improve their return on investment for new and existing equipment.” QTMS iQ New Product Features: -- Radio frequency barcode reading ensures accurate workflow tracking and provides product verification at machine, section, and hopper level. -- New reporting capabilities accessible via a web browser show full product workflow from raw material, press, and WIP (Work in Progress) to binding and finished goods pallet movements. -- Encoded functionality enables users to identify and track pallets containing file copies (customer samples) from press, through WIP and bindery to finished goods pallets. QTMS iQ New Intelligence Capabilities: -- New hopper loading tables ensure sections and inserts are correctly planned. -- Delivery load forecasting uses performance data to help estimate when deliveries, editions and the total job will be completed. -- Pallet summaries identify unused WIP available and finished goods completed. -- Material verification functionality via barcode production and reading ensures the correct sections are loaded to the correct job, and even to the correct hopper. QTMS iQ is developed in VB.NET and runs inside the .NET framework. It maximizes the use of the native XML support to pass information between the Central Data System (CDS) and individual machines. QTMS works with presses, reelstands, stackers, stitchers, binders, and finishing lines from any manufacturer. Prism-QTMS iQ will be on display at Print 05, booth #6521, from September 9 through September 15 at McCormick Convention Center in Chicago. At Print 05, Prism will also demonstrate Prism-WIN, a customized MIS solution for the enterprise, and Prism-WIN SBE (Small Business Edition). All Prism solutions support the JDF standard.
