Precisia Launches FleX Wing

Press release from the issuing company

ANN ARBOR, MI, September 7, 2005 — Precisia LLC, a leading developer of advanced printed electronics technologies, announces the launch of its FleX Wing, a low-cost RFID printed antenna solution utilizing advanced conductive ink technology to deliver performance comparable to similarly-sized, traditional copper and aluminum antennas. Available now in volume quantities, the highly versatile Precisia FleX Wing provides optimum performance across all EPCglobal compliant protocols (Class 1, Class 0+, Gen 2) and adapts readily to virtually all of the industry's most used chips. The design of the FleX Wing provides full universal functionality at all UHF frequencies, eliminating the need for global companies to provide customized antenna designs to meet individual RFID regulations in various regions. The antenna measures 91mm x 24mm. Dr. Graham Battersby, president of Precisia, observed, "The FleX Wing represents a landmark achievement for Precisia and the RFID industry. It provides what the industry has been seeking – a truly low-cost universal antenna solution that supports high volume usage at all application levels, making RFID implementation feasible and affordable." He notes that the FleX Wing is positioned at price points lower than similarly-performing, traditional metal antennas. Precisia offers the FleX Wing in three separate formats – as a printed antenna, an inlay, or a completed label – to serve the differing needs of RFID customers. Dr. Battersby added, "Leading chip manufacturers and end users who have tested the FleX Wing in their operating environments have confirmed that it performs as well as traditional stamped or etched metal antenna products." The design of the FleX Wing has been optimized using Precisia's proprietary, silver-based conductive ink formulation to print on paper or film substrates. Both the ink and antennas are manufactured under Precisia's stringent control of both the components and the process, to assure the consistent quality and performance of every FleX Wing antenna. The Precisia FleX Wing’s performance, versatility and low cost make it uniquely qualified for supply chain, warehousing, logistics, transportation and asset tracking applications. It can be utilized at the pallet, case or item level. It is currently offered in Class 1, Class 0+ and Gen 2 protocols.
