Itasca, IL, August 30, 2005 --- Xeikon, a Punch Graphix brand, will print live production variable data direct mail jobs on its flagship product- the Xeikon 5000- at Print 05 and Converting 05. According to Kristof Vereenooghe, President and CEO, Punch Graphix Americas, "Our Xeikon 5000 system will print real revenue-producing business at Print 05 and Converting 05. Everyone talks about demonstrating live variable data production set-ups. However, the truth is that no other digital print equipment manufacturer has ever dared to achieve such a feat before. This shows the amount of confidence we have in the Xeikon 5000. It is the most reliable and productive digital color press available in the market today." The variable data direct mail application that will be printed live on the Xeikon 5000 belongs to Expresscopy.com --- a nationwide online digital printing company and a long-standing Xeikon user. Expresscopy.com receives and prints up to 700 variable data direct-mail jobs everyday. During Print 05 and Converting 05, a part of Expresscopy.com's daily orders will be redirected to the Xeikon 5000 on the show floor for printing. The fulfillment of the jobs is automated in one complete production line. The entire line will consist of a Xeikon 5000 digital color press along with an inline finishing unit with two- sided UV-coating, die-cutting, stacking and batching. The production flow starts with the powerful X-800 Digital Front-End which resides as a virtual printer on the Expresscopy.com network. The jobs are simply transferred over the network and the finished pieces will be picked up by US Postal Service from the show floor for delivery into the postal stream. "As we will print Expresscopy.com's actual business at the show, no one will be allowed to take these direct mail pieces from our booth," adds Kristof with a smile. The Punch Graphix Americas booth will also house a second Xeikon 5000 with offline folding equipment, which will print an equally interesting application -- self-mailers printed on pre- perfed stock with co-adhesive glue and remoist strip. This is a similar application to one in production at Inter-State Studio, Inc., another successful Xeikon customer. In addition, the second Xeikon 5000 will also run PPML / Variable Data jobs in conjunction with the PODi tour and Xeikon's front-end partners as well as promotional Point-of-Sale display materials.
