New GretagMacbeth ProfileMaker 5 Packaging Reduces Production Costs
Press release from the issuing company
Regensdorf, Switzerland, and New Windsor, New York, August 2005 -- GretagMacbeth, the worldwide technology leader in color management solutions, has extended its award winning ProfileMaker 5 family with the addition of ProfileMaker 5 Packaging, a new color management solution for multicolor printing of as many as ten freely definable colors, with or without CMYK. ProfileMaker 5 Packaging, which is available immediately, addresses the growing demands of package professionals printing n-color output, who require accurate, predictable color reproduction within the multicolor imaging workflow. Based on the unique multi color separation plug-in and Generic Output Profiler technologies, it yields exceptional results in a fraction of the time previously required with a high return on investment.
Before the introduction of ProfileMaker 5 Packaging, managing color in a multicolor workflow involved creating new profiles for each new combination of colors being printed. With the new patent-pending GretagMacbeth Generic Output Profiler technology—included with ProfileMaker 5 Packaging—users now can automatically regenerate a new profile when one or more spot colors change, without the need to recreate test charts, plates or cylinders. To provide an even higher level of efficiency in the n-color imaging workflow, ProfileMaker 5 Packaging includes two unique Photoshop plug-ins that provide one-click separation of images into multicolor channels, as well as easy soft and hard proofing of these images directly in Photoshop.
ProfileMaker5 Packaging provides reliable color communication, reduced time to market, and significantly decreased costs. It enables packaging and textile producers for the first time to effectively manage n-color imaging workflows utilizing flexo, gravure, offset or inkjet processes. ProfileMaker5 Packaging builds upon ProfileMaker 5 Publish with sophisticated n-color ICC profile generation for as many as ten color channels. Once users have created a profile in ProfileMaker 5 Packaging, they may edit and soft proof their images in Photoshop and create a multi-color separation in one simple step, eliminating the previously tedious manual process. In addition to speeding up and simplifying the separation process, users can now achieve excellent color results with only a single iteration, significantly reducing the time and material required with previous workflows which typically required from three to five cycles of image editing, creating separations, and proofing.
The new GretagMacbeth Generic Output Profiler permits the constant use of ICC profiles within the multicolor imaging workflow. When one or more spot colors change, colors can be rapidly exchanged within an existing ICC profile by simply measuring the new colors, and importing them into an existing profile. The Generic Output Profiler automatically generates a new profile, without the need to recreate test charts, cylinders, or plates.
The unique multicolor profiling technology in ProfileMaker 5 Packaging yields vibrant, high quality color images while optimizing ink consumption. The n-color ICC profile generation algorithm allows users to use any combination of up to ten ink colors (with or without CMYK) with no restrictions. In addition, users may adjust several very important parameters during profile generation—including ink consumption, ink priorities, and metamerism stability. The Profile Maker 5 Packaging plug-ins for Adobe Photoshop simplify and streamline the proofing and separation process by integrating ICC color management tools into a multicolor workflow.
“In announcing ProfileMaker 5 Packaging, Iris Mangelschots, Vice President and General Manager of Digital Imaging at GretagMacbeth, commented: “ProfileMaker 5 software solutions are acknowledged as the color management solutions of choice by color experts in publishing and high-end imaging environments worldwide. The new ProfileMaker 5 Packaging solution is perfect for multicolor printing, particularly in the packaging and textile markets. Unparalleled new workflow tools and capabilities show the continuous commitment of GretagMacbeth to delivering solutions that provide high quality results while reducing production costs by simplifying and automating the imaging workflow.”
A new tool on the GretagMacbeth website, gretagmacbeth.com, helps users determine the substantial savings they can realize with ProfileMaker 5 Packaging by calculating their own individual return on investment.
ProfileMaker 5 Packaging is available individually or bundled with GretagMacbeth color measurement instruments. All ProfileMaker5 Packaging solutions include two days of on-site training by a GretagMacbeth application specialist, color consultant, or dealer.
