Geneva-based graphics specialist, Mathys S.A., used its new VUTEk three-meter UltraVu II 3360 printer’s increased functionality and greater productivity to produce photographic quality vehicle graphics for the high profile international fashion label, Hennes & Mauritz (H & M). Installed on five trams measuring 40m long each, Mathys S. A. is now using the H & M job as a case study to attract additional business for its new three-meter capability. A total of 56 printed panels, featuring brightly colored beach and summer retail images, were adhered to the tram’s eight carriages. Once installed, the panels formed eight different images, designed to promote H & M’s new summer swimwear collection. Using its new three-meter VUTEk printer, Mathys S.A. was able to accurately match skin tones and provide the image quality required for both short and long distance viewing – essential to the success of this job. Printing 800 square meters in only 24 hours, Mathys S.A. used the UltraVu II 3360’s high speed printing capability to identically wrap each of the five trams before they were returned to the streets of the Swiss towns of Geneva, Bern, Lugano, Coire and Lausanne. Richard Mathys, Director of the Visual Department of Mathys S.A., comments, ‘Installed in February 2005, our new UltraVu II 3360 perfectly fulfills our needs for a strong, productive printer that offers consistent high quality prints. This was demonstrated by the H & M job, which proved we could deliver the versatility, print quality and speed required to meet our clients’ expectations.’ Designed to reflect the lifestyle image of H & M’s swimwear collection and stimulate sales, the graphics had to be accurately match the bright and vibrant colored imagery intended in the original design. Mathys S.A. was able to accommodate these requirements using VUTEk’s new six-color UltraVu II 3360, which consistently prints high quality graphics for maximum impact. The success of this project has led to further projects with H & M. Richard continues, ‘The VUTEk UltraVu II 3360 was perfect for this job. Its speed enabled us to meet the clients’ deadline, and its high print resolution ensured the visibility of the details needed to maximize the impact of each image. To be honest, there weren’t any issues with printing this job. We did some initial tests to ensure the highest print quality, and then thanks to our VUTEk printer’s consistent output, we pretty much just loaded up the artwork, pressed the button and waited for it to finish.’ Mathys S.A.’s new UltraVu II 3360 has attracted many new customers who have heard of its three-meter print capabilities and consistently sharp, crisp, high-quality output. Richard comments, ‘We are one of the only printers in Switzerland to offer three-meter printing, so companies talk to us when they need high quality graphics on a grand scale. But it is the print quality from our UltraVu II 3360 that ensures repeat business and sets us apart from the competition. Customers know that we offer the highest print quality on the market. We are delighted with our new VUTEk purchase.’ Mathys S.A. was established in 1982 by Richard and Christian Mathys, and currently employs 50 people. Today, it operates a host of different business units, including Mathys Expo for exhibit stand design and construction, Mathys Locastand for furniture and modular structures, Mathys Visuel for sign-writing and superwide format digital printing, Mathys Display lightweight exhibition display systems, and Mathys Multimedia for interactive communication and audio-visual structures. Mathys S.A. has successfully produced work for companies such as Breitling, Caterpillar, Chrysler, Hewlett-Packard, Honda, Nestlé and Rolex. Richard concludes, ‘Our new VUTEk UltraVu II 3360 uses the most recent digital printing technology to provide increased output quality and productivity, enabling us to offer customers many new and exciting applications. With this powerful combination of benefits, we believe that we have the capability and service offering to become the Swiss market leader in large format printing.’
