LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill. — The goal of Mitsubishi Lithographic Presses has long been to win customers’ trust through excellent products and technologies that contribute to a successful business life. In keeping with this mission, the theme for Mitsubishi’s participation at Print 05 is “Contributions for Your Success.” The centerpiece of the Mitsubishi exhibit area will be the 40-inch Diamond 3000TP Tandem Perfector. During Print 05, Mitsubishi will be running live jobs to demonstrate the unmatched image quality and paper handling-performance of a five-over-five Tandem Perfector with inline aqueous tower coater. Mitsubishi developed the Tandem Perfector to provide an alternative perfecting solution that would enable printers to avoid problems that can occur with convertible-type perfecting machines. The need to control front-to-back register is paramount when flipping paper in a sheetfed press. The Tandem Perfector allows the printer to maintain the same gripper throughout the length of the press, which can encompass as many as 12 printing units. The front side of the sheet is printed after the reverse side. Backside printed sheets are passed to the front-side printing units without turning the sheets. As a result, the tail of the sheet becomes the “new” gripper. This method has proven to be far more reliable than stacking units because it takes away the stress at the print impression point, thus reducing fan-out of the substrate from unit to unit. The Tandem Perfector runs at a top speed of 13,000 sheets per hour. The press handles stock thicknesses up to 24 points for the typical commercial printer’s needs or up to 32 points to satisfy the requirements of folding carton applications. Packaging printers realize an added benefit with the extended stock range. The Tandem Perfector is the only dedicated perfector that can perfect carton stock in one pass. To date, Mitsubishi has shipped 46 Tandem Perfectors worldwide, with another 17 presses on order. At Print 05, the Tandem Perfector will be equipped for networked printing and JDF connectivity utilizing the DiamondLink III automated control system. Mitsubishi will present a digital network linking a management information system (MIS), CIP4-compliant prepress and the Tandem Perfector. The Tandem Perfector will incorporate a spectrophotometer-based closed-loop color control system. Mitsubishi’s ColorLink CIP4 server will transmit makeready data from electronic prepress for ink presets. Several remote workstations in the Mitsubishi booth will give visitors an opportunity throughout the show to observe the MIS as it captures production data and job-status information. Mitsubishi also will be highlighting through graphic panels and stationary displays detailed technical information on the Tandem Perfector, as well as details about the Diamond 3000R Double Diamond perfector and MAX-Saver waste-reduction software package for commercial web printers.
