EFI Fiery to Provide Advanced Solutions for New Ricoh Aficio Multifunction, Color Printers
Press release from the issuing company
PHILADELPHIA--May 18, 2005-- EFI, the world leader in digital imaging and print management solutions for commercial and enterprise printing, today announced the availability of industry-leading Fiery System 6e software for the Ricoh Corporation Aficio Color 5560 and the multifunction Aficio 3260C, new additions to the Ricoh color family that deliver 55 ppm and 45 ppm color output speeds respectively.
The EFI Fiery print controller delivers industry-leading color quality and control, as well as maximum speed, even for the most complex color documents, authentic Postscript and native PDF printing, exceptional reliability, and heightened security solutions. The EFI print controller optimizes the Aficio systems to offer high functionality, user convenience and enhanced color capability, and come standard with copying, scanning, and printing capabilities.
"Our customers rely on Ricoh for solutions that provide a competitive advantage -- advanced capabilities at an affordable price," said Hede Nonaka, vice president of marketing, Ricoh Corporation. "Ricoh's position as a digital office equipment market leader is furthered because of strategic partnerships such as ours with EFI. The Fiery controller is essential as we offer the high-value, feature-rich Aficio systems."
Highlights of the Fiery system software for the Aficio systems include:
Color Management / Great "Out of the Box" Color -- Fiery ColorWise industry-leading color management software offers built-in intelligence for producing consistently precise colors from all applications, platforms and file formats. Leveraging EFI's renowned expertise in developing digital color profiles and tools for the most demanding color professionals, Color Profiler is a turnkey application that enables novices and professionals alike to readily create, communicate and manage color. Advanced functionality includes auto trapping for layered graphics.
Also available is Fiery Spot-On, which enables accuracy and consistency and helps manage named color and corporate colors. Spot-On matches Pantone library colors with their best CMYK equivalents and supports branding efforts by standardizing the appearance of corporate colors.
New Fiery intelligent processing software, Gigabit Ethernet support and 2GHz CPU speed accelerates the processing of documents and ensures the fastest printing possible on Postscript, PDF, MS Office (particularly PowerPoint), and other large, color image files. Fiery technology virtually eliminates waiting time at the printer, distinctly important in the office environment.
The multi-award-winning Fiery Command WorkStation(TM) sets the standard in centralized print job management with an intuitive interface and a variety of sophisticated, productivity-enhancing tools. The familiar, consistent interface means seamless integration into Ricoh environments.
EFI Impose allows users to edit and modify jobs to create booklets, business cards, and calendars, among other materials. PDF jobs can be edited quickly and easily without compromising color, fonts, or job properties. Impose enables the merging of different page sized jobs into landscape or portrait layout without relying on other graphics applications.
Additional Fiery productivity enhancement tools include:
Enhanced USB-based capability for walk-up media printing;
Seamless integration with corporate email systems via LDAP;
Fiery NetWise(TM) for seamless connectivity to all popular network platforms;
Fiery WebTools(TM) for easy remote system management;
Fiery FreeForm(TM) for flexible variable data printing capabilities;
Optional Hot Folders for automated batch processing of PostScript and PDF files;
Optional EFI Data Center Package, linking IBM Mainframe and AS/400 users to the advantages of EFI's Fiery workflow, enabling the Fiery controller to access and print Intelligent Printer Data Stream (IPDS).
The Fiery controller includes an EFI/Adobe co-developed PostScript interpreter to process the print job. Fiery office accelerator technology enables the printing of authentic Postscript and native PDF files with a level of accuracy and color rendering that emulators cannot achieve.
To secure information, Fiery system software provides formidable digital solutions. Fiery security features for the Aficio 5560 include:
IP Filtering to control access to the printing device;
Port Blocking to control access to the Fiery through remote management;
Secure Erase to remove all traces of job data from the Fiery hard disk drive.
"We are delighted to count Ricoh's Aficio customers among the 12 million users who choose the Fiery server's industry-leading color quality and control and maximum productivity and reliability -- and to further strengthen our relationship with Ricoh," said Frank Mallozzi, Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing, EFI. "We recently integrated EFI SendMe(TM), our document capture and distribution solution, with its line of Multifunctional Aficio systems as well."
Ricoh Aficio systems equipped with Fiery system software will be sold through Ricoh's direct sales organization, at 800-RICOH 38 (800-742-6438), and through Ricoh dealers directly -- starting in early July 2005. The Fiery-driven solutions, as well as SendMe, will be shown at On Demand (Philadelphia Convention Center, May 17-19), in Ricoh booth #2224. Ricoh will also demonstrate the new Fiery E-8000 external server, well-suited for more demanding environments, driving a recently announced Aficio system. The E-8000 server is scheduled to ship in Fall 2005.
