U. S. Government Printing Office Joins RIT's Printing Industry Center

Press release from the issuing company

The Printing Industry Center at Rochester Institute of Technology announces the addition of the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) as an industry partner. Supported by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the Printing Industry Center at RIT is dedicated to the growth and profitability of the printing field.  The center, a non-profit organization, addresses industry concerns through research initiatives and educational outreach programs. GPO is responsible for the printing, publishing and distribution of government documents for all three branches of the government. Bruce James '64, a graduate of RIT's School of Printing Management and Sciences, is Public Printer of the United States and chief executive officer of the GPO.    "The GPO is required to do many things by law that demand novel approaches that will eventually become standard practice for other players in the industry," says Frank Cost, associate dean of RIT's College of Imaging Arts and Sciences and co-director of the Printing Industry Center. "Having the GPO as a partner will enable the center to get involved early in pioneering work that is highly relevant to the future needs of print media users." Industry partners advise RIT's researchers on topics critical to the printing industry. The center's other industry partners are Adobe Systems Inc., Baldwin Technology CompanyInc., Creo Inc., RR Donnelley, Heidelberg, Hewlett-Packard Company, IBM Printing Systems, MeadWestvaco Corp., NexPress Solutions Inc., NPES, Standard Register, Vertis, VIGC, Weyerhaeuser and Xerox Corp. The Printing Industry Center at RIT is a joint program of the School of Print Media and RIT's College of Business. For more information on the Printing Industry Center, visit http://print.rit.edu.
